but in reality most people have other priorities..

my surprise was how much someone working @ wireless wave was making

if he was awful he would not have still been working there after years of work and being promoted. he is not poor, he is middle class. but he certainly is not rich. also, hes a 40 sth year old family man so he does not fit this vandirty army description lol...altho...

my point is that judging how rich someone is by their car or clothing is retarded and unfortunate. half the country is in debt becauee they drive what they cant afford and live in houses they should not have bought. if car salesmen do spend their money lavishly like some ppl in this thread said, then its an even worse predictor.

It's commission based sales. So comes down to how well a salesman can build rapport, product knowledge, service, after sales service, etc etc etc.

It's like asking how much a real estate agent makes annually. You could make zero or $500,000.

My dad used to work at Dueck GM a longgg time ago and he barely made 2000 a month. You make like a couple hundred on an entry level car depending on the discounts and profit margins.

I've heard of people making 100k+ at higher end dealerships. But that's like putting in 6-7 day work weeks. Commission sales is purely on your performance and how well you can sell (or lie).

car salesman are just a different breed of humans lol

The answer to your question is... not as much as you think.

Car sales is a very lucrative job however rarely do salesmen crack the 50-60k/year mark. And the job is not great. Long hours, shitty co-workers, work weekends/nights, really stupid "totem pole" i.e you start in the sub-basement etc.

If you want to make good money and not have to work that hard with none of the above, motorcycle sales is where it's at. I made 55k my first year and it's a very seasonal job. Make %80 of that from May-Aug.

the place i'm working at is hiring for 40k/year + bonus in the form of an IS-F.

let me know

Bottom line is, unless you're one of the very few who sell BMW, Merc, Audi etc. and are actually GOOD and commit a shit ton of time to it... you'll make average money.

wtf cell phone sellers make more or aobut the same as car salesman... lol

2damaxmr2 08-05-2011 09:08 PM

Not a lot of people could afford a new car on yearly basis.

Makes you think about a) markup and b) how much a monthly contract is really worth to telecoms.

Don't give out false info dude. Hours are short, i work 35 hours a week. I'm sure there are no bad co workers in motorcycle sales, yeh right. Many car sales crack 50k a year yet you say it's rare???

car sales and cellphone sales and selling high end bags are all consumer sales. the real money is in b2b. salesmen at my company crack 100+

so to think about the salary is kinda stupid. if ur super into cars and wanna do sales it shouldnt matter.

Sorry if you took offense. I'm just speaking from my experience with co workers/former co workers who have worked in auto sales. The swing shifts and evening shifts suck as do working weekends. I worked a 9-5, make good money and the majority of my co workers were not dead beats. I wasn't implying everyone was... just the large amount I know of...

50k a year is easy. 100k is not. Too many people get into auto sales thinking they are going to rake in 100k+/yr with little to no work or commitment.

BlackZRoadster 08-05-2011 11:15 PM

50k is easy you say but you said earlier that most don't crack 50k. Isn't that kind of contradicting yourself.

No offense taken but debates are fun and informative

What dealer are you at where the SM make at least 90k a year?

edit: n/m I thought by SM you meant Salesmen as opposed to Sales Manager.

Yes most SM's make 90k/year

Rich Sandor 08-05-2011 11:33 PM

At my dealer it varies from $25,000/yr to $110,000/yr. Most guys are in the $30,000range and only a couple are near $100,000 - and they work 6, sometimes 7 days a week, usually 10 hour days. A lot of it has to do with your work ethic. But I have to laugh when I see this thread title. "Sales" and "Salary" are rarely ever used in the same sentence.

AzNightmare 08-06-2011 12:42 AM

lol, all these responses are kinda like yahoo answers.
