VHS conversion

Just did some late summer cleaning and found a bunch of old school family VHS tapes in the basement.. was just wondering if anyone here knows how to convert these to digital format ?

I'd like to do it asap b/c I heard these kinds of tapes actually degrade with time.. colour / sound quality and eventually the entire video basically becomes blank!

Not really wanting to shell out 350 for one of those dual hardcore VHS/DVD-R (conversion capable) systems!

think you need to hook your vhs into your dvdr to burn them to disc

or hook it up to your computer and record it on there

like with one of these cables http://www.amazon.com/TerraTec-Digitize-Interface-Standards-Windows/dp/tech-data/B001PA8WCW
or if you have a camcorder?

I did a whole bunch this way too. With the dvd recorder + vhs combo, it makes it easy to set menus etc for things you are burning over to dvd format. Be prepared to relive some old memories, or in my case old disney movies, since it records in real time.
