I have driven both on the track. If it is just a regular R8...fuck yes you will want that 911 turbo. :) The r8 v8 isn't that fast....i say some what boring to drive. Maybe v10 is much better, but i have never driven it.

I completely agree with you on this one.... The R8 spec for spec is a very close match to the 911T. Even professional drivers love the R8 even after driving the 911T, so when 2 cars are that closely matched and somebody picks the R8 over the 911T that makes him a pouser? The R8 looks better inside and out, and puts out numbers on the track that is respectable even up against the 911T. I guess these 3 editors need to re-read the porsche specs more closely before making their decision.

But that's a fair statement to make. Some people just want a car to go from A to B.. others who are real car enthusiasts love driving, and will buy accordingly.

So to simplify, just picture a little HK girl in an R8. She only likes the style of it, and nothing more.

Then picture say.. an old man in a black GT3 with a park bench spoiler. You know he knows what's up.

IMO, it is not Porsche's goal to make the flashiest and fastest cars. In fact, it would be a step in the wrong direction. To me, they are for people who admire it's simple beauty, the addicting sound of the flat-6, and it's steering precision. They are for people who just enjoy driving.

If you're a person who buys a car based on it's panty-dropping looks, 0-60 times, top speed, and horsepower numbers, Porsche is not for you.

good thing being one butt hair faster at the very edge of driveability is the number one reason i buy a car... wait. no its not.

i dont give the slightest fuck if car A is .1 seconds faster around X track than car B if, imo, car B looks better, fits better, and is more my style.

i probably wouldnt a brand new Porsche but if i was looking to buy a sports car for 60-70g, a Porsche would definitely be on the top of my list. i mean who can resist this

since the question is about the apearence of a porshe and how i feel when seeing one my answer is no, don't really care to look.

now if you where asking me if i wanted one hell yes! they're a beautifuly engineered car.

the problem is they're kinda the civic of downtown, and most of the models look the same. the look is also dated and hasn't changed much in a long time.

LOL. I'm the biggest Porsche fanboi here and even I don't give a shit about looking at cars anymore. I think it's because I've driven so many now, if I can't take the car on a race course it doesn't crank my interest that much. I'm not much of a spectator.

I would argue that the problem here is YOUR mentality on this. They might not be trying to impress or be douchey at all... a Ferrari might be their everyday car, just like how a Civic or IS350 is to others. Why are they being prejudiced to this negative stigma of being a douche or trying too hard to impress just because they drive a Ferrari?

^ it's called human nature, we all do it, you only have 1 chance to make a first impression. So, if someone showed up in a beat up civic, that doesn't leave an impression?

When you've dealt with enough ceo's, actress, directors, top realtors, lawyers, dr's etc you will know they have at least 2-3 cars to be having a Ferrari or Lamborghini. They choose not to drive in with those because they tell me "why would I drive such an attention grabber to a appointment". Those cars to them are meant for leisure for them.

If I was doing some charity work or work function I don't even like to drive the BMW there albeit it only being a 335. I drive my Mini to be low key

When you are young and you can't afford a Porsche, you will pay a lot of attention to the people who drive them because in your mind, you want to be them. When you get older and you are able to afford one but you choose not to get it because other things in life take priority, you will start to look at them differently.

For me, my (realistic) dream car was a SLK and I always pay close attention to them. That's why I develop a fake sense that people pay a lot of attention to them because I do it. Now that I actually drive one as my dd, I realize how stupid I was because no one was actually paying attention but me. Everything is just in my head.

That's the SLK. The 911 comes with a very strong magnet.

I've driven a shitload of high-end cars over the years including exotics. Some turn heads more than others, for sure, but the one car that literally had people snapping their necks when I drove by was a restored Delorean. A POS car, but still a head turner.

On a side note: my friend is the former owner of that techart 997, he sold it to buy a 370z. He says the 370 is easier to drive fast around the track due to the oversteer in the porsche when braking. Resulted in better track time for him in the 370z.

That being said, porsche can be very fast around a track but it requires a very skilled driver to take full advantage of this car due to the engine being in the rear. You have to brake earlier into the corner, but you can also get on the gas sooner when exiting a corner.

But does it have turbo? :fullofwin:

After looking at a lot of cars for years, cars are not just looks anymore. Its 10% looks 60% feel and 30% power. Porsche doesn't have all the fancy models for every line like Audi does, but every line has its own internal parts that make it different from each other. That is what completes a passion for driving and cars.

LOL I came from Edmonton where any 6 series has WOW factor....still in love with all the high end cars here. Always will have love for the 911's

Never liked Porsches. Don't like how they drive, look, engineered and how much they cost. However, I think the only Porsche that would cause me to have that WOW moment would be if a 959 drove by.
