Yeah, just checked with a Wind authorized dealer yesterday that hardware discounts / Windtab is not available with the Mobi transfer promotion either. :okay: |
anyone's Mobilicity service down? I've been down since noon. |
Been fine with me all day long. Have you tried rebooting your phone? |
Yep. Tried connecting to the network and my phone says it's restricted access. Gonna give CS a call I suppose. Thanks |
Rogers given approval to buy Mobilicity - News1130 Quote:
Obviously, in the federal government's eyes, Rogers was obviously not a major incumbent in the mobile phone market... FailFish |
It's pretty much a done deal. Question is, when will WIND start their promos to attract those remaining Mobilicity users over... I rather switch to WIND than be converted over. |
From what I gathered so far, WIND will have 20MHz of spectrum in BC (unsure about Alberta and Ontario). That's enough for them to roll out LTE in AWS in BC. I hope my monthly plan won't go up though. I've been with them for 4 years. Currently, WIND's network in Van is very overloaded. |
Rogers paid $465 million... Deal includes Rogers buying Shaws unused spectrum and selling it to Wind, in return Wind selling some of theirs back to Rogers... lol... not sure why Wind would want to sell any is beyond me.... Sucks for telus, if they werent greedy, they would have gotten the deal... too bad they wanted all the spectrum... :lawl: |

Probably gonna switch over this week, but how are Mobilicity data speeds and coverage these days though? Mobilicity has a new $40/month plan that Rogers will honour after network switch | MobileSyrup.com Quote:

If you guys don't mind gambling $40 + cost of a Mobilicity SIM card, it could be worth signing up right now and hoping Rogers gives you a nice grandfathered plan. I think Rogers might just lock the Canada-wide calling to Provincial-wide calling and just cap the data at 6GB rather than the soft cap. I won't be doing this myself as I get an employee line from Wind for free, but if I was still with Rogers, I would be highly considering it. |

Currently, coverage is shxt just like before. As the Mobile Syrup article pointed out, subscribers are currently still only using the Mobilicity towers, so it (coverage) isn't anything to rave about. |
i wouldn't trust robbers either.. who knows how long its going to be before that gets switched over. |
Mobilicity Try it, it's fine in most places I use it but again that's me. Data is somewhat inconsistant if you need to clash of clan and war in outskirts o Mobilicity's coverage but my 2nd line has been with them since 2011 and it has gotten better since then. Just not upto par I you are used to using the Big3. Sign up now to be locked in and grandfathered I all I gotta say. |
Signed up today, but didnt port over my number yet. Waiting for an actual tower change to happen, and if it doesn't happen I wont loose my old plan. |
Just make sure you port over your number before promo is over if you intend on having the promotion. |
After thinking more carefully about the Mobilicity/Rogers migration, I think Rogers will actually just migrate all Mobilicity customers to Chatr instead. There's actually no point for them to migrate Mobi customers to Rogers when Chatr already has the area based coverage system in place making it easier for them to manage the new customers. |
Mobilicity's plans cost nowhere in the range of ChatR if you match them dollar for dollar, feature for feature. Customer management isn't difficult - keeping them is the struggle. I can't predict the future, but I can't see Mobilicity changing much in the foreseeable future. |
Sorry for the dumb question, but does this mean mobilicity will have the same level of reception you would expect from Rogers? I have recently started my own business, and Wind's reception is no longer acceptable because I have zero reception on some job sites... But if mobilicity can benefit from Rogers, I wouldn't mind switching. |
If reliability is your number one concern, I would make the switch to Mobilicity and see what Rogers does. Wind will probably have a holiday promotion, but this Mobilicity jump will only happen once. |
I am currently with Fido and my contract ends in Jan 2016.. Im thinking of switching over to Wind.. but is Mobilicity the better choice since its with Rogers now? The unlimited data plans are very tempting compared to my 1gb =p |

I think Rogers won't allow that happen. So most likely Mobi will run on its current network. |
Mobi's signal strength and coverage hasn't improved one bit -- that is to say, they still suck. The unlimited data thing is nice, but bear in mind that data speeds are not fast at all. Good enough for YouTube streaming on the phone though, I suppose... |
I've been using Mobilicity since they came to GVRD and did not even know Mobilicity was bought out by Rogers. My day to day operations with my phone has not changed one but. Data is still slow compared to the big 3. Network drops once every 3 or so months for a couple mins/hours. No price adjustments either. |
I spoke to Rogers about this and they said that Mobilicity will remain at tier 2 speeds |
