VI'd on Temp Ins? Have any of you guys gotten pulled over and VI'd while on temp Ins? Reason I'm asking is that I want to drive the project car to work for a day just to see how it shakes out. I'll be traveling hwy 1 and a bit of the lougheed. The car's not very low key either, kind of a target, the exhaust is really quite loud. This is the car in question: http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/1999/profilens.jpg |
niiice z31 but exhaust sticks out way too far, other than loudness ur not too low and doesnt look like ur wheels are poking either. So i'd only be worried about the exhaust sticking too far out btw when they do pull u over while your on Temp, you can just say you're on your way to the shop to put stock parts on. depending on officer they may or may not let you off. edit: saw the rear shot in your sig, you are running a lot of camber so i'd be worried about that too |
Never been pulled over for VI while on temp insurance but it's totally possible. I wouldn't be surprised if you actually do get VI'ed since your car is not exactly low profile as you said. |

When you said not low key I was expecting something like this Attachment 7480 but other than your exhaust sticking out quite a bit , I think you will be fine. Theres more than one person on the road with a super loud exhaust, so I wouldn't worry about that bit, tooo much |
I never got pulled over for my exhaust while driving around on the highway and such. I ran open 3" dump and no exhaust. My car is a lot more high profile than yours. You'll be fine. The only time I ever got a ticket for exhaust was on Robson. Berz out. |
sorry i can help but say damn. that z is awesome. |
I could see you getting a VI for the amount of camber your running in this picture.. http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/8631/mg1718sized.jpg |
Think you'll be fine. I've got quite a bit of rear camber and have never had a problem. Posted via RS Mobile |
id VI you just for the car looking so damn sweet!!! im jelly |
So what are you doing with your TD now? PM me with details if it's for sale. |
If I had to guess, the VI would be flagged in the system against the registered owner (assuming that's you) and/or the VIN. The next time you try and buy insurance for that car, the system won't let you until it's the VI is cleared. But that's 100% just a guess. |

A temp permit is temporary registration, it is not a waiver from having to obey the MV Act & Regs. You can get stopped and a mandatory inspection order issued and even you seem to think that is an impossibility. If it's a #1 then you will be towed and the car will not be allowed back on the road until you pay any outstanding fines and it passes a full inspection. Do you want to risk that for a 1 day drive in a car you know will not pass the way it is now? |
Flip, the td sold a while back, I had it for sale on here! The camber in the rears is non-adjustable, so there's nothing I can do for that unfortunately. The main thing I was asking is if having the temp tags would make the car mire of a target, or allow the poilice to be a touch more lenient. The reason I say that is because there are some BEAT ASS cars I see driving around on temp tags. Posted via RS Mobile |
i got pulled over on temp before. cop wanted to VI me for exhaust, but I told him I put temp on to install new exhaust for tmmrw. I got off with a warning. this was no.3 and lansdowne btw. |
Lol @ VI's. I've been driving much less "low key" cars that this and many other rice rockets on this site and have never been pulled over for a VI. Drive like a sane person without hitting VTAKKKK all the time (or in this case, don't get on it with the loud exhaust) and you'll be just fine. Pretty much all the VI's I hear about are either on #3 or somewhere else in Riiichimondo or Robson. Wonder why.... |
^ black exhaust + low noise ftw |
Also not driving like an idiot helps. And shifting at 3k instead of redline... and coasting by cops when they are around rather than accelerating by etc. Being low key in a not so low key car is an art. And many people fail at doing it. |
