Need help on installing a spoiler that requires rivet for screwing Hi all, So I got an Evo X spoiler that I need to install...however, one of the mounting holes require you to insert a rivet in the trunk in order for the screw get grip onto the spoiler. My question is...how do you insert that rivet? I understand that you have to do it with a rivet puller/ gun which I don't mind buying from home depot...but then from the research I have done, it seems like those rivet puller is meant for like those nail looking style rivets instead of like a screw cap kinda thing that the spoiler needs? Regular rivet that is used for rivet puller/ gun: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...lindnieten.JPG The rivet for the screw to get grip on (golden piece): http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/3...stallation.png Another look from one of the guides: http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/8158/xfactttttt.png So it seems like a puller/ gun was used in the first guide...but then it doesnt seem like the golden piece would feed right into the puller/ gun? :fulloffuck: Am I missing something here? And yes, I know that there is an alternative solution which is to drill the trunk and bolt it right down...but i would prefer to do it the OEM way if it's doable. Thanks in advance! :) |
We call those popnuts or rivnuts. It is a special tool most likely not available at home depot or rona. You should be able to find one at most any industrial fastener place and even Princess auto sells em. We have em here too but not for loan. If you like mark where you want it come by and if I have the correct insert I will be more then happy to pop it in for you. |
ahh!! so thats what it is! now everything is starting to connect! :) thanks alot for the offer Phil! I will give you a shout once the rivnuts arrive (they are on backorder from Mitsu dealership) :fullofwin: |
