Disappearing files?

Lately, I've noticed that some of my mp3 files are disappearing a day or two after I download them. I can't find them in the folder, and even when I do a search on my computer it doesn't turn up. However, when I try to re-download it, it says that file already exists and asks if I want to over-write the file. But again, either computer search or manual search, I can't find the file. What's going on?

Are they downloading to a hidden folder?

Try this:

Press the windows key logo + R.
Should bring up program called RUN.
Then type in %temp%. You might find them in there.

^No, I'm downloading it into "My Music" folder. It will be there for a day or two, and then suddenly it's not listed any more?

Have you enabled showing hidden files?

what browser are you using? usually it has a history of what you downloaded as well as the location of which the files are stored. For firefox the shortcut is ctrl + J.

Using IE Explorer. This is just so bizarre...it's still happening now, and can't figure out what's happening. I saved all the new songs onto a playlist with windows media player. So some of the new songs I can't find in the "my music" folder, can't find it with windows search, and the song is now missing from the playlist as well. But again, when I try to re-download the file, it says "file already exists - do you want to overwrite"? Any chance this is a hardware problem?

it happens to me too sometimes.

i cant find it by scrolling through the folder, but when i try to redownload it, it exists...

if i use the universal search in windows7, it finds it though. its strange.

Sometimes I lose files as well, but mine tend to be cracks. My virus scanner thinks they are infected, and moves them into quarantine.

I don't know how to do this

Hmm...good point about the quarantine though. I have McAfee, I will check to see if my antivirus is flagging it or something

Does an undelete tool, like Recuva, show that the files existed in the location that your looking at?
