Hitting the open road alone doesn't necessarily mean you are a loner. In fact, some of the most hardcore enthusiasts are likely to prefer a one-on-one connection with their machine of choice. Having a unique moment that only the driver can experience and everybody else could only wish for plays a big part of that mentality. This seems to be the case with this helmeted speed freak that goes for a lengthy ride in a turbo charged Ariel Atom that has 650 horsepower to the wheels.

He puts every gear through its paces as he makes the turbo whine and creates a symphony of audible mechanical bliss. He seems to get so passionately motivated on his driving that just over halfway through his journey he makes an unintentional spin. That doesn't stop him from continuing on his soul-gratifying drive that is sure to have him smiling from ear to ear under that Suzuki GSX-R helmet.

Although the driver is seen spinning out through a traffic stop sign, it is believed that this video was composed on a closed area of streets and that all was completed in the safest of manners. Besides, we all know just how safe the Canadian government thinks Atoms are since they are banned on our streets.

Regardless of that, the Atom offers an amazingly refined, raw driving experience that enthusiasts crave. See for yourself. Hop over the jump, sit back, close your eyes and enjoy the sounds of being behind the wheel of a turbocharged Honda K20-powered Atom. Just remember to open your eyes at 7:45 for the spin out.

The driver's treating like his own go cart track, but it appears to be a public road and should be treated as such.

Could be an abandoned army base or something like that. Plenty of those in the states. I didn't see 1 other car or person anywhere in that vid.

Berz out.

unless the k20 is pushing 500 hp its not going to be faster, but if it is. It should be alot faster. V8 would be heavier the 4cyl + turbo set up.

that's what I thought at first too, but later in the vid you see a truck drive past, skip to 9:40 and you'll see.

I think it's just a quiet road in a subdivision being developed, which isn't exactly street racing, but regardless, I don't support driving that aggressively on anything but a closed course.

music to my ears

Avery 08-17-2011 08:11 PM

To bad their not legal for roads in canada :(

1exotic 08-17-2011 09:40 PM

wish we had roads like that here

dachinesedude 08-18-2011 08:44 AM

beast!! but how the hell are t-rex's legal and atom's are not?

Phat_R 08-18-2011 09:14 AM

I've driven an Ariel Atom at a two day track event called the Ariel Atom experience.

They are not that fun to drive in my opinion. Because they weigh so little it takes a lot of time to get heat into the tires and brakes -- and when the tires and brakes are cold (the open wheel design doesn't aid this) it SUCKS to drive because it understeers and has very little stopping power.

a 650 hp version would be ludicrous imo

jpark 08-18-2011 09:40 AM

holy balls

RabidRat 08-18-2011 01:23 PM

holy fuck that's ridiculous.

nlo 08-18-2011 07:41 PM

thats just insane :O

twitchyzero 08-18-2011 08:11 PM

i swear i thought it was closed track until i saw the stop sign

any clue where this is? Is the article implying it's in Canada?
