Major Sony Alpha announcements!!! Cameras, Lens', etc etc

Alright, so Sony made some major announcements regarding their Alpha Line of cameras, lens', and accessories this morning. There have been long rumours regarding most of the things announced today but it hasn't been made official. One of the main thing that all the cameras have in common are that they can record 1080 60P!!! (Full-Frame cameras coming in 2012!)

First off, there's the NEX line up. The NEX-7 and NEX-5n have been announced and I'm quite intrigued with the camera as it's esthetically pleasing and spec'd out. An OLED EVF, built in flash, and more manual controls over the NEX-5 plus it sports a 24.3 megapixel sensor. Super compact camera. As for the NEX-5n, physically it looks the same but the differences between the new one and the old one are internally. New camera sports a 16.3 megapixel sensor, ISo100, 10FPS, a touch screen and the possibility to add an EVF to it.

For the A65/A77, it's Sony's Top-end APS-C Sensor Cameras. I'm getting lazy in typing up stuff. I'll just post links to the specs and overviews.

The thing I think is the most impressive in this announce is the new E-mount to Alpha-mount adapter. It now sports a Translucent mirror with autofocusing! That means it can do phase detection on the NEX Cameras/camcorders!!!

As for Lenses:
Sony 16-50mm F2.8 A-mount
Zeiss 24mm F1.8 E-mount
Sony 50mm F1.8T E-mount
Sony 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 E-mount
(Search it on google, i'm lazy now haha)
DPreview of all of the announced Lens'

Alright, I'm done. Sorry for the crappy update. :lol I got lazy as I typed it. Too much info to type up!

For more info on the Sony announcements, just go to sony alpha rumours.

Wow that A-mount adapter is expensive.. $399. More than1/2 the price of my Nex5

muteki 08-24-2011 02:20 PM

The nex-7 seems a lot more functional than the older ones with the extra controls T_T

Yeah looks like they decided to go more "Pro" since it was so popular.

insomniac 08-24-2011 03:28 PM

i hope its a lot easier to use than the current line. the nex-7 looks pretty damn attractive :D

It's expensive but it has a translucent mirror and from what I've read from rumours. It was intentionally made for the NEX-FS100.

Time to sell my a580 to get ready for the a77! :D

The A77 is intriguing, but having 24MP in an APS-C sensor is risky. That and the 1/3 stop of light you lose with the translucent mirror means that potentially, low light performance isn't going to be very good. The sample images on dpreview are somewhat noisy, but I don't know if those images are straight out of camera jpegs, or jpegs converted from the RAW files. The camera only accepts SD cards and Sony Memory Sticks...that may slow things down a bit when shooting at 12fps. The EVF sounds amazing though. I hope the refresh rate is fast!

With 24MP, the sensor is going to out-resolve a lot of the lenses in Sony's lens line-up too. It will certainly make my Minolta and Sony/Zeiss lenses look like shit, as some of them already looked slightly soft on my 12MP A700. The only lenses that will look good on this camera and the A65 will be the 'G' lenses and the Sony/Zeiss lenses.

The 35mm DSLR market is getting interesting again! Can't wait to see what Nikon & Canon have up their sleeves!

skyxx 08-24-2011 11:40 PM

I like that Sony is trying to innovate and give Canon/Nikon a run for their money. It makes things much better with competition, especially in the DSLR film category. Like Senna said, can't wait to see what the competition has to offer!

COME ON NIKON. Why you no unleash anything.. I don't want more Nikon Crappix cameras!!

24.5mp in a m4/3 is crazy! Is it it the same sensor as their flagship SLR?

It's not a m4/3 camera. It's actually a full blown APS-C sensor. For the NEX-7 it's the same one as the A77/A65. For the NEX-5n, it has the same sensor as the A55.

As for Nikon, they have something up their sleeves soon. I hope they don't release that tiny 1/3 sensor or whatever for their interchangeable lens systems(EVIL) cameras.

LiquidTurbo 08-25-2011 08:38 AM

Nikon m4/3.. thats TOO late in the game, and will probably be a bigger version of the shitty crappix. I really don't understand why they don't put more resources in dSLRs..! D700 is dying for a replacement already, meanwhile Canon's probably pumping out the 5Dm3 soon.

skyxx 08-25-2011 08:41 AM

At the moment, there's a set date in september for a Nikon event. Nothing about a brand spanking new DSLR yet but looks like Nikon might actually introduce their tiny sensor camera with a few lenses.

Supposedly real thing looks similar to this.

The sensor in the flagship DSLR is a full-frame 24.6MP sensor, almost the same as the one in the Nikon D3x.

gars 08-25-2011 02:16 PM

I heard the A900 is super noisy at higher ISO though, is it the sensor or the camera?

Senna4ever 08-26-2011 12:05 AM

Yeah, the Sony A900, A850 & Nikon D3x cameras have top notch image quality up to 400 ISO, then they start to fall apart. You have to remember that those cameras were meant to be studio or landscape cameras where you shoot at low ISO, not some dude shooting his kid's birthday party. I know of a few professionals who ditched their Canon gear to shoot the Sony A900 with the Zeiss lenses, as they shoot in studio or with big, powerful strobes outdoors and they never have a need to shot over 400 ISO.

^^^ i guess this is new camera/lens season?

!MiKrofT 08-26-2011 02:11 AM

That's just their new compact version of the standard lens. Still pretty impressive though.

skyxx 08-26-2011 10:14 AM

^ Apparently it's "sharper" than the standard lens.

Would the images in this be comparable to a D3x? (assuming high quality lens are used?

PS. I really dug the promotional video.. lol.. makes me really want one . :D

Senna4ever 08-26-2011 07:45 PM

^^^ I doubt it. The D3x is a FF sensor while the Sony is APS-C, but without doing some real world testing it's impossible to say.
