2000 Dodge Caravan Battery Won't Hold a Charge
 

Hey guys,
I am sort of a noob at this car stuff, but I get most of it.
Anyways, my 2000 Dodge Caravan has been sitting in the garage for i don't know how long, as expected the battery died every two weeks. So, I charged it up with an overnight battery charger, it did work, but then it would hold a charge for about a day. Did it again, and it holds a charge for even less. Now, it holds a charge for barely a few hours. Now, I took the battery to the mechanic (as it is under warranty) and told him to replace it; but he said the battery is fine, and didn't replace it:mad: Can someone help me, what is the problem here? I don't understand if the battery is fine, what could it be?

So, how do I know for sure? And is it easy to install one by myself?

Sorry for the stupid question, but how (where) would I do that and how do I know if its fine or not?

Follow the wire from the negative terminal to the chassis/ engine. Remove the bolt, clean the surface with a wire brush and reinstall with some dielectric grease

One thing to take note of since the late 80's dodge and chrysler vehicles use an alt regulator that is ECU controlled this system is prone to failure if you just jump start the vehicle and let the alternator charge the dead battery. You fry this circuit you will never get your battery to charge right.
Is the battery and terminals and corresponding leads clean?

Yes, everything was clean. Turns out the battery was messed up, since I couldn't even charge it up with my battery charger; I had to resort to jumping the battery. Note: DO NOT go to Vancouver Auto Parts in Burnaby, the mechanics aren't very good and don't really care about you or your vehicle (he was the one that said the battery was fine in the first place). Thanks for your help though, guys :)

Which means he probably just checked the voltage and didn't load test the battery.

^Exactly, I told him to do it, but he didn't since he thought the voltage was fine..
Guess i'm gonna need a new auto shop now *sigh*

maybe theres a drain when the cars off
