just wondering if anyone had experience with gum grafting?
I have a receding tooth and the dentist wants me to do it.
he said hes going to cut the top part of my mouth and then use that piece to cover the tooth

I've read stories about it and it sounds horrific

There are many different types of gum grafts. usually the pallet is harvested to patch up your receeding gumline
with local anaesthetia ('freezing') the process is pretty painless.

whether or not you need it really depends on a lot of things. If you have lot of tooth hypersensitivity (ie to cold/warm drinks, brushing) or if the periodontist is telling you that your gums keeps receeding then it's probably a good idea to get one done. The procedure is generally not recommended to immunocompromised/diabetes patients/smokers.

Sometimes aesthetics could be a concern as your pallet texture and colour is different than that of the gums.

I wouldn't trust reading 'stories' online...i'm sure there are tons that only focus on the negatives/painful experiences.

I'm sure your periodontist can address most of your concerns.

i had it done when i was like 9, top part of your mouth feels pretty weird for the next few weeks or so, almost like you ate too many sour candies. Other than that, it wasnt a bad experience for me at all.
