iOS IS GETTING FLASH! (somewhat)

Quote:

During the IBC trade show in Amsterdam on Friday, Adobe officially took the wraps off of its new Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 and Adobe Flash Access 3.0 products, which will allow iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to access Adobe Flash content. Apple, which has long rejected Adobe’s Flash technology, doesn’t need to approve the tech for it to work, either. “With Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5, media publishers now have a single, simple workflow for delivering content using the same stream to Flash-enabled devices or to the Apple iPhone and iPad,” Adobe said in a statement. Flash Media Server 4.5 allows publishers to stream Flash content to iOS devices, which means support within the iOS Safari browser is not required. Instead of relying on a device’s processor to render the stream, which often degrades battery life and slows a device down, Adobe’s Flash Media Server 4.5 does all the legwork. Adobe Flash Media Server is available immediately to publishers for $4,500. Read on for the full press release.
Adobe finally brings Flash to iPhone and iPad

So this doesn't mean that all iOS devices will be getting flash automatically, but instead the publisher will have to spend $4500 to get Flash Media Server 4.5 in order for its flash content to be played on iOS devices.
What do you guys think?

The Skyfire browser app that's been out for about a year already does something similiar to this. It looks for videos on a webpage and if you want to watch it, it loads it up on their server and streams it to your phone.

The only flash I watch on my iPhone aside from YouTube is xvideos, and the site runs natively on Safari :lol

Meh. Wasn't a big deal to begin with.

Kinda, cause with what Amazon did the with Kindle web-app and now Adobe, companies are finding ways to skirt around the Apple appstore and offer apps in browsers that look/function as well or better than native app equivalents.

If this keeps up it won't matter what phone/tablet/computer you have.

^ Won't change anything.

The only companies trying to "skirt" the App Store are those who sell content (like books) and don't want to pay Apple the 30% cut if they have an in-App "Buy" button. To get around the "Buy" button they develop web pages that function & look like an App, with links to purchase content.

Besides, you can't make a web app as good as a native iOS App. Oh sure, if you have a "simple" app maybe, but there are too many functions/features in iOS that can't be accessed or duplicated with a web app.

That's the way it should be regardless of what platform you use.

To be honest, I rarely use my apps and often find the web browsing sufficient. I hope in the future, instead of launching Apps, we're just launching bookmarks instead to access certain application already on the web.
