Popeyes is meh though, I don't think it's worth the money.
Churches I haven't tried. That's actually the second iteration of Churches as the first one a decade ago closed down.
I haven't been in awhile as last time I tried to go with dark and him and his BS diet, which he gained 10lbs anyways.

Anyone notice Churches was like exclusively run and staffed by filipino people before, but every single one of them is all EI now

Yes. Same thing applies to all the Burger King, Tim’s, McDonald’s (to an extent) and for sure 100% of all the subways in Richmond.

I find the EI run ones over cook the chicken.

The Richmond one a Blundell was my usual haunt and it's been horribly inconsistent since all the filipinos left. I never complain about food ever, it's just not in me/not worth my time but I got a box of chicken there last time where the coating was actually soggy and not even crispy as if it wasn't even cooked and I took that back.... just gross.

I find it's a bit of the opposite out east when it comes to flavour/quality between Popeyes's vs. Churches.
Popeyes is generally pretty good in the GTA (some locations hit and miss) but Churches is a wild swing. I can't say I recall having Popeye's in Vancouver, so I can't fairly compare.

I don't have insider info but something must have happened. If memory serves me correctly it coincided closely to the rebranding of the stores. The chicken definitely felt a bit different for some time but the biggest difference is that the Filipinos just run the place more efficiently than the EI's do imo.

I recall in the 90s and 2000s that the Chinese operated church's was the best. The ones on east Hastings and and Kingsway were downright excellent. 2 dollars for 2 piece and fries (student special)

A lot of the engineering in the hardware probably most of you guys are using, was done by my EI coworkers btw. That's what apparently the rest of them slinked off to do  .

Most of the Filipinos that worked at the tims in my neighborhood growing up were parents or family of kids I went to school with, permanent residents.
Even if they were, Filipino people seem to generally take pride in their work and actually put in some effort as opposed to the current EI work force we have manning these places

yep the first wave of TFWs were filipinos. if you had a way to read old reddit posts, people were complaining about as much about them as they are now about the EIs. same same but different.
granted there werent nearly as many as the LMIA process wasnt as abused as it is these days. i lived at joyce at the time so i remember clearly lol

I don't think it's a race thing to be clear... I just think it's a situational problem.
You have a lot of people brought here under false pretenses and now they hate it and they hate their work and it kinda shows.
It just happens to be currently a lot of those people are from a certain country.

There was a pretty good EI chicken place at City Square mall until recently. LA Chicken vibes where the guy taking the order as the same guy making the food in the back. Horrendously slow but expected when you're a one man show.
