Need to buy a new TV, Suggestions please.

So after about 5 years my 42' Panasonic Plasma has bitten the dust and is now in need of replacing... I did alot of research prior to buying that particular TV but since then there's been so many changes with TV's and I feel kind of out of the loop with everything now so I was hoping to get some advice about which TV to purchase next.

So I'm preferably looking for a 46" screen, doesn't have to be 3D and am looking to spend not too much, probably max $1200. I usually watch sports/blu-rays and play PS3 on it.

So if anyone has any advice about a good TV that will fit my needs, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

I have never purchased anything from these guys but I hear good things about Openbox.ca, you can give them a try

Let me see what I can find at work. We had a good sale on a Sony XBR 909 last week.

You want LCD or Plasma? I would just go with another Panny.

Thanks roastpuff

I'm haven't really decided Plasma or LCD or even LED yet. I've kind of been out of the loop for a while so I'm not too sure if the pros/cons of each have changed in the last few years.

That's kind of why I'm just seeking advice from others right now. So I guess Im' not too particularly biased to either one right now.

Plasma's are still cheaper.
If you watch any SD (aka not HD) TV then plasma is the only choice.
If you play a lot of video games or Bluray, LCD/LED is fantastic.
The high frequency (480Hz) LCD/LED TVs make the picture look almost 3D which is really cool for video games and sports, yet really weird for shows and movies.

Plasmas still have the best blacks
side lit LED LCD's are thinner but that's about it.
Back lit LED LCD's have great black levels but cost a lot more than plasmas.

Down side to Plasmas is the heat and the glare but glare has been reduced from older generations.

Yeah, LCD's still work better in a room that daylight comes into. Plasma's are great for SD, yes, and also for dark rooms.

A buddy and me just went TV shopping and he picked up a Panny 50 inch 1080P for $769 plus taxes from FS and got 1/2 off a stand.

I think it was this model but the price at the store was $799. Panasonic 50" 1080p Plasma HDTV (TCP50S30) : 50" - 59" Plasma TVs - Future Shop
