It's a yes and no for me. Yes as long as they are grappling like they are doing, as long as they are not punching and kicking i'm ok for that. The reason why I'm no is because I personally think the cage is a bit to much and the enviroment is to normal MMA like when it should be more about the fun and learning not whos going to win.

There was no punching or kicking allowed. Kids do boxing and karate at a young age.

They were grappling the whole time geez.

Grapple in high school = elite high level collegiate sport

Grapple in cage = "BRUTAL BLOOD THIRSTY KIDS!!!!!!"

At one point the kid lifted the other kid in the shirt off the ground and attempted to slam the other kid into the ground. That is the only thing i'm not a fan of.
Albeit, the kid didn't get hurt, but that could be very dangerous in other "fights"

It doesn't help that for the most part MMA is still promoted like SEG-era UFC. "CAGE FIGHTING! GRRRRRRRR"

While I dislike the whole MMA scene, all these kids were doing was basically wrestling. That's something that most kids used to learn during gym class in school. Yes, the cage and set up are excessive, but it's not like they're going at an all-out brawl. I've got friends with kids and even friends when we were younger who would do martial arts and do full contact sparring during tournaments. Hell, I was doing full contact karate tournaments at these kids age. Nothing wrong with that.

I was in karate when I was 6.

My GF's daughter is a brown belt in Taekwondo and her sparing is more violent than that, and she spars against kids a few years old and much bigger.

The parents are probably outraged that these kids will turn into UFC fan douchebags wearing Ed Hardy/Affliction shit.

I've got no problem with this. The media likes to blow everything out of proportion.

I don't see it being that bad....It's considered a sport. Controversial sport.

Most of the best Atheletes in the world started very young. So if you want your son to be the next Fedor it would make sense to start conditioning them young and teaching them to be humble.

I can see why parents would hate it because they're fighting. Same could be said with wrestling, martial arts, etc.

I admit, when I first read the title I felt a sense of outrage because you're encouraging kids to fight, the term "cage fight" sounds so brutal but at same time really its just martial arts/wrestling techniques. If a 9 year old was in a wrestling or karate match parents wouldn't bat an eye. I think it's just how the stupid media words it.

I actually have a couple affliction shirts, when they first came out as a metal brand. Back then they didn't have glitter and sparkles though :lol

I have no problem wearing Affliction. All my Affliction shirts have an overt MMA connection, it's not the flashy foil bullshit. I couldn't care less of what people judge me as when I'm wearing Affliction anyway.

I don't know if you can compare this with the typical "kids going to martial art class."
Many parents send their kids in martial arts without the intention of them actually participating in tournaments.
It could be for exercise, learning self defense, discipline, or just getting the kids out of the house to do some extracurricular activity.

If you just break this down as wrestling, though, without the punching and kicking, I'm okay with it.
Although the whole cage set up is really unnecessary.

They should just call this BJJ (or whatever type of wrestling it is) and leave out the "cage-fighting or MMA".
