05-08 Xterra major issue, and simple fix...before its too late In the event none of you knew, Xterras (and probably frontier and pathfinders) have an issue with the automatic transmission cooler somehow getting coolant from the radiator into the lines and destroying the transmission. Here is my fix, 2 parts, pre, and post fix. pre fix post fix |
its actually the same for almost all automatic transmissions in the nissan family, but now you dont have any was of cooling the transmission oil, i bought a small oil cooler from Summitracing.com and mounted it on the front below my AC Rad, then its seperate from the coolant insted. |
Its pretty simple. Just by-pass the internal tranny cooler. They come factory with an internal and external cooler. Just use the external only. Going off memory, it goes from trans > external cooler > internal cooler > trans. Cant remember if it goes thru external or internal cooler first. |
