TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran raised the prospect on Tuesday of sending military ships close to the United States' Atlantic coast, in what would be a major escalation of tensions between the long-standing adversaries.

"Like the arrogant powers that are present near our marine borders, we will also have a powerful presence close to American marine borders," the head of the Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the start of the 1980-1988 war with Iraq, Sayyari gave no details of when such a deployment could happen or the number or type of vessels to be used.
Hey would be lucky to get a few vessels to tool around the Atlantic for a couple of months before having to withdraw them. The logistics of operating a naval force far from home is well beyond their comprehension.

Current Navy force:

28,000 personnel
65 aircraft
5 Frigates
3 Corvettes
13 Submarines
24 Fast Attack Craft
98 Large Patrol craft
+100 light missile boat
13 Hovercraft.
1,000 flying rugs.

I would love to see them try, this will be hilarious.
There is no way they will be able to refuel and re-supply that far out. They don't have bases half way around the world like the americans.

Anyone have statistics on US Navy force? Would be hilarious to see a comparison...

Edit: quick wiki search:

"The Navy operates 290 ships, 3,700 aircraft, 50,000 non-combat vehicles and owns 75,200 buildings on 3,300,000 acres (13,400 km2)."

"The United States Navy has nearly 500,000 personnel, approximately a quarter of whom are in ready reserve. "

they're making a point of the US basically threatening the world and Iran by shoving warships in their waters

The only fleet that comes anywhere close to the standard of US Navy is the Russian Black Sea/Northern Fleet.

I'm not sure what is Iran trying to do here. But let's have some peace here please.

Isn't Iran on the brink of having nuclear weapons... if they don't already??
This could turn into something nasty like nuclear war then...

Oh well, Happy to be living on the WEST coast =D

65 aircraft vs. 3700 aircraft...

:troll: problem, Iran?
