MacBook Pro Refurb buying question

Just wondering, do individual stores carry refurb' units as well? or is the only way to get a refurb'd unit through the apple website?

Also... spec for spec, which one is a better buy?:

1- http://store.apple.com/ca/product/FC...co=MjM2MDg4MzM (Feb 2011)
- alternating video cards (Intel integrated + Radeon HD 6490M
- 2.0GHz quad-core Intel i7
vs

2- http://store.apple.com/ca/product/FC...co=MjEwNTcyOTc (April 2010)
- only one video card (330M GeForce)
- 2.66GHz Intel Core i7

Both 1,599 + Tax...
Don't know how to decide..

I'll be running some steam games, SC2... hopefully D3

get it from the apple store/website....they have free shipping and carry the same warranty as brand new

get the 2 one better battery life 8 > 5 and the 330gt is better then 6490

But #1 is quad whereas #2 is merely dual-core. For gaming, the 330M is better, but not by much. If you can stretch get the model with the 6750, it's much better than the 330M.

Individual stores do not carry refurb products. Online order only.

the first one is sandy bridge.... of course get the 2011 model

Ok thanks guys, I asked my fried about this too and he said something about an 'ivy bridge' coming out soon? Any idea when that's gonna be?

Don't do this.

If you're "waiting" for the next big thing, you'll always end up waiting. With the way tech rolls around, there is an upgrade every 6 months and something new every year.

Simply computing have used computers too, but not Apple certified refurbs, FYI.

Also, a refurb unit from Apple is apparently more reliable, as whatever caused the previous owner to return the unit has been fixed. I will never buy a new Apple computer, as the refurbs are pretty much new, and carry full warranty. I bought a 17" MacBook Pro as a refurb, and it's been fine.

Yeah, I did quite a bit of research into the refurb issue before deciding to go ahead to do one, I haven't received the product yet, but I'm Excited to finally jump on the macwagon!

The biggest difference is the refurbs come in a plain white box

Why do you care what box it comes in?

SiRV 10-09-2011 09:55 PM

for the extra horsepower associated with it
