my comp just died :( need some help Hi, my comp recently just died outta nowhere, no bangs no burning smells nothing. It basicly just stopped turning on, someone told me it's probably my motherboard. so my question is if my motherboard goes on me does it take the hardware installed with it?(video card, HD the ram etc...) I would test it myself but with no spare comp its alot easier to get an answer from a knowledgeable revscener :) thanks |
it is motherboard, if fans turn on for power supply for brief sec, its good. If your motherboard dies, no it does not take the other hardware with it. To make sure it is the motherboard, unplug power, switch ram sticks around, sometimes it works. |
Powersupply could be dead. |
Does any of the fans spin? if the chassis fan spin and not the CPU fan, its not your PS, its your MB because the CPU fan is plugged into the MB while the chassis fans are plugged into the PS. If you have a spare PS, just plug only the MB power and see if it powers up. if you MB is newer, it should have lights to indicate if there is something wrong with. Make Sure to discharge yourself before going into the computer.. otherwise you could fry more then just the MB. |
Definitely check power supply first. Try using one from another machine. If not the power supply, then probably motherboard. If motherboard, usually it does not kill the other components, so you should be able to reuse your RAM, hard drives, and CPU... basically just replace the motherboard with a compatible one for your CPU. |
