iphone 4 facetime question?
 

my wife and I both has iphone 4. We recently removed our data pack. So it runs on WiFi only.

question:
if one of us is in Seattle or new York, will facetime over WiFi be consider roaming on our cellular phone bills?


I think facetime on iphone 4 requires dialing number to recipient , unlike ipod touch 4g which dials via email account. Is there a trick or special way to use facetime without roaming?

can one of you apple guru help me out, my logic can be run an have no way of testing it out.

WiFi isnt billed. No worries as long as both are using WiFi and not data roaming, there shouldnt be any additional charges for using FaceTime for you.

facetime on OS5 can dial phone to phone using emails now through imessage

still needs wifi though

You won't be billed as long as you're both on wifi and I'm pretty sure FaceTime only works with wifi lol

^ cuz if you facetime without wifi you will use up your gbs sooo fucking damm fast. Wifi only

FaceTime only works on wifi at this moment.

For data it is about 3mb per minute (using Skype)

FaceTime is over wifi only. If you are jailbroken, there is a hack that allows you to use it over your wireless data.

if you're jailbroken you can use 3G unrestrictor to use fcetime over data too. to be safe and avoid big bills, put phone in airplane mode then turn on wifi, or take out sim card.

only works on wifi and is free. I have facetimed from Vegas to home with no problems. Even from Texas to home with no problem

have u had a good experience with 3G unrestrictor? when i was on 4.2.1 it ate my battery like crazy. i restored the phone and upgraded to 4.3.3 (w/o 3G unrestrictor) and the problem went away.

You can set up 3g unrestrictor to only work with certain apps at certain times. It SHOULDN'T be a problem

just MAKE SURE your cellular data option is OFF inside Settings -> Network and enjoy facetime over wifi =)
