Well, looks like we'll be carrying some pretty high end home audio speakers now. If you are looking for above bar equipment, you have another choice. :)

Seriously? I'm trying so hard to save money, and then you tell me this? :D

Especially since my home theater is in dire need of an upgrade :(

The stuff I have now isn't even close to that bad! :lol Those 'sets' should be outlawed.

Just like car audio, you get the chance to watch a movie/listen to music on a really, really nice set up, and you get jealous! :(

Just got some vinyl in the mail from the UK and put on my tech 1200's connected to my Behringer's and it sounds awesome. These speakers are so underrated.
Very precise bass and extended highs.

Tell me about it.
I am sooo pumped about these new products that all my Paradigms will be up for sale soon. Along with my huge Onkyo amp that I thought was the best of the best. My eyes are wide open and this winter I am dropping large coin on the real deal.

100" motorized screen
JVC HD projector
Episode 900 series in-wall speakers
Integra amplifier
My own custom subwoofer enclosure, sub and plate amp
Home automated lighting, blinds, fireplace and screen/stereo
All controlled through an Ipad. :)

My neighbours are gonna hate me.

didnt wanna make a new thread decided to bump this, had one more question? i have a extra alpine type x sitting in my garage, just wondering how hard it would be hooking it up to my home theatre system? im guessing that sub would be better for music n stuff than the other regular home theatre subs. i would just need a custom box made for it

sonick 10-19-2012 10:22 AM

You'd need an amplifier for it.

Either just any old stereo amp or a dedicated subwoofer plate amp built into the box if you're making one anyway. Plate amp will also give you more useful settings like phase, filters, etc.

With a plate amp I won't have to buy an adapter or watever from 12v to 120v outlet right?

that's right. Plate amp or any regular home stereo amplifier or receiver.

Save money on shipping the plate amp. He is local, so you can pick it up.

I have a brand new SPA-500 plate amplifier for sale if you need it. I have changed directions in my DIY home set-up. Price is $275

if i were to put that type x in the room, it would be best to power it with a 1000w amp anyways i think. 1000w plate amps usually run about 3-400? same price as the alpine 1000w amp. which you guys think is better?

If you need more than 500 watts go with a PA amp. Way more power for the $.

orgasm_donor 10-22-2012 10:44 PM

You would need a fat power supply for that Alpine amp.

Klutch 10-23-2012 09:36 PM

im confused :( what do you guys think i should do, just get a normal theater sub or use my type x?

i also got a quote for my speakers, i was checkin out the mirage omni 550 towers, what do you guys think of them? i thought they sounded pretty good. but with the two towers (omni550b), two rears (omni150b), center (omnic150b), and sub (omnis10b). i got quoted basically $1600.

orgasm_donor 10-24-2012 10:38 PM

Type X is a decent sub but you must do two of the following to get the most out of it: 1) get a nice ported custom down-firing enclosure made for that sub and 2) feed that bad boy at least 1000 watts RMS if you want to shake the room.
