Jwt, with Z-tube has the best dyno results. I had changed mine from the AEM cold air intake. I had to buy the air scoop mounted on the rad support, mine was missing. Keep this in mind, it was just over a hundred dollars from infiniti.

i have the stillen hi flow intake kit with ztube.

Z tube + stillen pop charger. I ran a Z-tube + K&N panel filter and it worked great. These things have a LOUD intake haha.

stillen ! and the stillen exhaust sounds pretty sick too

Injen CAI is what i have, works nicely. comes with a sock for the filter to prevent against hydrolocking in the event of splashing deep puddles.

iFeend 03-29-2013 06:53 PM

^ did you notice any difference with the injen CAI? (deeper exhaust note, sound when accelerating)

wonton1017 03-29-2013 09:42 PM

I've tried 6 different setups and I'd say save up for an exhaust or high flow cats if you want better sound. Intakes do little to nothing in terms of performance and sound, they just look pretty in your engine bay.

*Talking about the VQ35DE engine here, I believe the VQ37 engines gain quite a bit from intakes.

Intake is probably a waste of money..better off with a plenum spacer for gains, or high flow cats or something. With that said, my G came with a K&N Typhoon intake or something.

TheSalesman 03-30-2013 04:31 PM

Tapered designed intakes are the new thing now. I don't think anyone makes them but they seem to show the best gains. So you'll have to go custom.
4" - 3.5" - 3" with a flow stack at the end of it.
Obviously this really won't do much at all if you don't tune the motor.

i've seen a lot of people with the motordyne 5/16 spacer. there are so many different ones (basic, iso thermal, etc). what is the difference between them and what do they do?

Just get the basic one, copper ISO gives you "1 extra HP" for $100+ extra. The copper ISO is supposed to be better during extremely cold weathers but it's probably not worth the $100 extra

Dont forget to get the MREV 2 if u have the REV UP motor, or else the spacer is pretty much useless.

Intakes dont add hp, just gives the VQ a bit of growl. If u want to gain more hp then get z tube + rev up airbox.

kwy 04-03-2013 11:48 PM

What wonton said. Slightly higher benefit(if even) not worth the much larger cost.

iFeend 04-08-2013 12:34 PM

Awesome. Thanks for the great info guys!

The word "Best" is very subjective.
Best sounding? Best Performing?

Intakes for the VQ DE engine have proven to lose power, so if your going to get it for anything it would only be for sound. In which case it is really up to what kind of sound you like. For that, I would refer to youtube.

If you want the "best" performance, stick with the stock airbox and just drop in a K&N air filter. If you wanna go further, I believe the 06+ airbox is a slight improvement.

Or to make real power, put your money towards something more useful like the plenum spacer above or just go FI :D

AEM filters are one of the best filters. Apexi beats them by only a little. but those filters stop dirt and dust very well. so I would suggest a AEM CAI

ilovebacon 09-30-2015 01:58 AM

those stillen aren't really that bad. sounds pretty nice. would definitely make your car sound more mean

MADEINJAPAN 10-08-2015 09:47 PM

Intakes for the VQ35 is purely for sound. Think closest thing to real gains is the stillen intake but the cost to hp gain ratio is terrible.

Only real hp gains with an intake have been proven on the G37/370z.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
