If that's it, the new hood design looks good but that front bumper looks like the front of a charger. I understand their grill is their signature on dodge/chryslers, but damn...

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe the 680hp will help me forget

Fine, but I mean, take the last Bimmer V10; only 5L, NA, and still 500HP, not too far from 600HP and using 3L less! The Viper just seems low-tech for that amount of displacement.

With your logic, you'd want an S2K over this viper too

torque curve tells it all, there's a reason the s2000 can make 250hp and only 150 lbft torque, "there's no replacement for displacement"

That's because BMWs are DOHC, Viper is OHV...

well, he's talking about power/torque to displacement ratio...

Honda S2000
2.0L I4
237hp (118.5hp/L)
152lb-ft (76 lb-ft/L)

Dodge Viper
8.4L V10
600hp (71.4hp/L)
560lb-ft (66.6 lb-ft/L)

why does anyone give a fuck if it makes 75hp/L or 95hp/L. it still makes more power and torque than a bmw m5 or a s2000

no one is questioning how fast the viper is...

but people are confused why a 8.7L output isnt as efficient as some other competitor. IM sure it will do 11s no problem if not 10s

Therfore people questions about American's technology.....

Lambos displacement is what? 6.5L? LP700 making 700hp

458 is 4.3L or sth and its around 540 hp

Bingo -- my exact train of thought. I guarantee you if you told BMW M or MB AMG engineers to make a NA engine out of 8.7L, it will be WAY, WAY more than 600HP of this Viper, and probably somehow more fuel efficient too.

And how much would this magical M or AMG car cost? probably 3x as much as the Viper. Engineers get these little things called 'parameters', and they have to abide by those when they build something. It's not just a free-for-all, and a 600hp 8.7L engine is the best Dodge could come up with..

they don't need 8.7L to go over 600hp...

Pagani Zonda R

6.0L NA V12

Its rumored to be in the high 600's. But, nobody has confirmed and actually knows the actual power of the engine.

when you have 500-700hp, laying down the power (tranny and lsd) is more important than an extra 50hp or 50lbs of torque.

^^ Never driven an American car have ya?

The whole point is to casually cruise in 6th gear on the highway at 1500 RPMs and have the ability to burn rubber from 120 km/h by punching the throttle.

Yep, it's a ten-banger in a box. The Viper may be dead for the time being, but Chrysler will still build you a V10 by hand, intended for use in drag racing. The 8.4-liter monster makes 800 hp and 695 lb-ft. No pricing info has yet been released.

There's another highlight from Mopar's SEMA spectacular: The company says it's got a limited number of Dodge Challenger bodies to sell. Maybe you could use one to build your own car, but without it weighing 11,000 pounds.
It's a Chrysler 800-hp V10 in a box, baby!

ZR1 and Z06 are great all around performance machines with some comfort to match. The Viper is an awesome car for what it is....an old school muscle car with awesome torque. Unfortunately the Viper rides like shit, brakes bad, handles OK (not talking ACR here), but is basically unrefined. So if you like that, good for you!

In a Ferrari, GTR, M cars, AMG cars, you can jump in and drive it at 7/10s no problem, try that in a Viper.

Look at the Z06 Motor, 6.2L and 505hp, way more efficient than the Viper motor. The Viper motor is old old technology, sure it's got torque, but that's it...it can't rev

OK now, cruise around in 6th gear, that is kool man the reason you cruise in 6th gear and punch it is because at a standing still, you will just see two tires go up in smoke (pretty fun), but you are not going anywhere.
