Thoughts on reliability and modification of IS250/IS350/IS-F Anyone who knows or better yet have owned/owns an IS? How's the reliability and maintenance? Are performance parts readily available? Might go down this route and pick one up. Thanks! |
standard bolt ons available, lowering, kits, wheels, exhaust, intake. id stay away from headers as they have always been tricky keep from having CEL's. theres ways around it but still no garantee. |
i wouldnt bother modding a IS250, as that car is hopeless |
When are they coming out with a new IS? I feel like the current gen has been around for awhile now. |
my guess is late next year as a 2013 model as it's been around since 2005 as 06 models i still remember liking the is300 exterior aesthetics...but when the latest gen came out it looked even better |
its super reliable. just like the camry. |
I recently had a chance to drive an IS-F and it was amazing! It reminded me of driving a BMW. Such tight and heavy handling(which I enjoy). Power is readily available and the exhaust is to die for. Having said that, I would go for an M3. I don't know if this is a proper comparison, but I felt it drove better than a Maserati Quattroporte. I'm just basing it on the power figures and the fact that both are 4doors, but it's real easy to throw into the corners and put the petal to the metal lol |
I drove an IS250 for an hour or so. Is it just me or does anyone find the pedals twitchy? Maybe it's because I'm used to driving conservative Hondas but I find the acceleration and braking very sensitive. It's not because its fast... I've driven v6 accords with more horsepower. |
The IS250 only has about 204 HP and 185lbs of torque, not exactly performance numbers but enough for city commute. On the other hand the IS350 is fun to drive producing about 300 HP and 230 lbs of torque. The IS350 is reliable and the build quality of the interior is nice. The leather on the seats still feel new and the there is barely anything rattling or shaking at high speeds. Maintenance isn't overly expensive but its not exactly Honda or Acura pricing. I've noticed the tires wear out pretty quickly, the back seat isn't very comfortable and insurance is pretty expensive. Otherwise its a pretty sweet car. I forgot to ask but are you planning to drive the vehicle all season? Even with snow tires the IS350 is quite a handful in the snow. (especially with ANY incline/decline) |
