GPS Tracker

Does anybody use one in their car? Kind of curious...
Seems like it would be easy enough to install directly into the electrical system, never worry about a stolen car again...

Have one in my truck, can track it anywhere.

Good for businesses who want to track their vehicles. It's uselss as a theft deterrent (since they won't know you have one). All it can do is give the police a chance to recover your vehicle sooner. Even then, your vehicle will still have suffered damages which you're going to have to claim on insurance anyway. So it didn't save you any money or aggravation knowing your baby was stolen/vandalized.

I treat my vehicles like I do medical/health. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Preventing your car from getting stolen is better than trying to find it after it's stolen. And making sure you have the proper insurance for your vehicle for that time something shitty happens.

How many threads have their been on RS where someone had an accident or stolen car and wonders how to get covered for all their mods they spent money on? If they were diligent they should have taken care of this before something happened (by purchasing optional coverage, for example), instead of scrambling afterwards.

I'm a firm believer in an immobilizer to prevent your car from getting started in the first place, and then proper insurance for everything else.

Remember....GPS won't work well if buried too far in the dash, or under any metal. The antenna is usually in plain site.

Proper vehicle tracking systems do more than just track. The newer systems run on GSM and GPS to help track the car along with backup battery (in case battery gets disconnected and car gets towed). Also, higher end tracking systems have instant SMS/Email/alert notifications or have someone call you (like a house alarm). If you're asleep and your car gets stolen, who knows when you'll actually notice it gone. By that time it may be too late.

Depending on the vehicles and the money invested into it, might even be best to have it all (gps, alarm w immob + insurance). I had a friend that always got his stereo stolen and he bought proper insurance. Eventually they blacklisted him for the stereo and stopped allowing him to buy "special" insurance. He's on RS maybe he can shed some light. LOL

Anyways, I always say "better safe then sorry". Especially if you have lots invested (time and money) in your beloved ride.
