ICBC Base Vendors
 

Hi guys,

I have a ford focus wagon and was rear ended last week. I had made a claim with icbc but they want to consider my car a total loss since the repair would be too expensive to fix. My car is pretty much in mint condition and the only thing is that there is a big dent in my tailgate. Icbc told me if I could find an ICBC base vendor autobody shop that could fix my car for cheap they would pay for the repairs otherwise they will consider it a write off. I cannot afford a car and I need my focus for a little while longer since it still drives perfectly.

So does anyone know of any icbc base vendors that do decent work? The ICBC claims manager said if he gives me any names of base vendors he woudl lose his job which I dont really understand. Hopefully someone could help me out. Thanks

I don't understand.

If your car is written off ICBC will write you a check for the value of the vehicle, usually a very optimistic value, which would enable you to buy another car. Not being able to afford a car doesn't quite make sense.

Sometimes a car be saved even though it has exceeded the total loss threshold. It really depends on the condition of the car, the estimate/adjustor, and the customer as well.

let me know if you are in the kelowna area, the bodyshop I work at is a Valet shop but do some jobs at a basic vendor rate for to save cars from being written off

I'm sure you've already dealt with ur situation but if u haven't what happens is that if u take it to a valet express or just accredited shop. Their rate is about $95/hr. Whereas just a shop with just an icbc vendor license, only gets paid $50/hr for the same work.
The only difference is the accredited shops hafta offer courtesy cars and other services.other than that, most shops offer the same work and guarantee!
Also valet shops are not allowed to lower their rate to repair border line write offs!
So just check the icbc website and choose a shop that's NOT on the list

non valet shops have a lower rate. There is also an option of finding out what is the maximum threshold ($$) before write-off, and contracting it out with a base vendor shop.

ICBC is pushing all shops to become valet/express (thus eliminating lots of claim centers and staff, because the valet shops will be doing alot of grunt work while ICBC will purely be administrative in the future).

Some lower mainland shops have been defiant while fighting the ever increasing urge to join valet, as it DOES pay the shop better in the long run over a base vendor license.

An ICBC Valet shop cannot use lower rates for an ICBC claim. If you want to take it to a non-VALET shop, you would have to make an appointment with a claim center and have it estimated first. Non-VALET shops cannot do estimates for ICBC (only supplements with an ICBC road man who would have to be on-site to approve any changes).

Make an appointment, have it estimated, and they will calculate total repair costs, max repairs etc.

At that point, you can select a shop to bring it to. Like others said, bringing it to a regular accredited shop will help keep costs down.

Well sorry for the late reply guys but I eventually did take my car to Essential Autobody in Surrey which I found through the link that Truenosan posted above. So I just wanted to thank everyone for their posts. Essential Autobody was probably the best bodyshop I ever dealt with and they did a fantastic job on my car. I found they did a better job than any Valet ICBC car shop has ever done and they did provide me with a courtesy car. They even put on a brand new OEM bumper which I wasnt expecting.

ICBC no longer gives out base vendor lists, it's up to you to figure out who the base vendors are.
