Canon Announces the New C300 and 4K Concept A lot of buzz going around regarding Canons new flagship video camera the C300. I don't wanna delve into the entire specs but it's a beast, and the cost represents that.. http://media.the-digital-picture.com...a-Camera-8.jpg Canon EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera Also reports of a 4K Concept which looks like a 1DS style body but tailored towards film makers as well. http://media.the-digital-picture.com...ept-DSLR-1.jpg Canon 4K Concept DSLR Canon also released new cine lenses that look amazing. Still no word on a 5D MKIII. Maybe Senna can chime in with some more tidbits of information? :) |
the C300 is a joke. 20k for a camera that only outputs 1080p, 60p only in 720p mode, no raw codec, no sdi 4:4:4 output, digic dv III processor when the new 1Dx the Digic 5+ processor, & i can go on but i won't. for 20k i would pick up a Sony F3 or the Red Scarlet. |
^ Totally agree with you on that one. Though you can use Existing EF lens' on it which saves you that much more money and it can record to CF. For the Price i'd rather get an F3 and get SLOG with it. Though getting a few lens with that will jump the budget. Apparently this camera is suppose to compete with the Epic and not the Scarlet.:inoutugh: Did a little more digigng for the RED scarlet. “Price for Scarlet-X, including Brain, Side SSD and Canon aluminum mount (auto-focus support) is $9,750 if ordered before December 31st, 2011. After Jan. 1st, 2012 the price for Scarlet will be $9700 for the Brain only” That's an effing steal! |
there is no way the c300 competes with the Epic. no way. to get a bare minimal scarlet rig capable of shooting it will set you back 14k. to play back r3dcode in realtime you need the red rocket pci-e card which will set you back another 5k. |
^ Yup a decent rig for the Scarlet will be around 14K, still cheaper than the C300. ;) |
I am not sure why Canon has gone with the C300 direction. they should have simply done a 5DMKII for movie, with options for different 1080P output along with inputs for more video friendly. While this might still not crack the PRO market dominated by Sony, Arri, RED... etc. It would make a good run for the money for amateur/semi-pro |
Thought I'd bump this to show this video. Some say it might not compare to a RED but it's still pretty amazing. |
Well with the new price point that retailers are listing at around 13K, it seems like it's a decent contender again. The one thing it does better than the red is low-light capabilities. The RED's sensor is older so low-light will be an issue. The noise on the C300 is apparently film like but you can't output to a kipro mini or anything so that's kinda meh. Though not a bad camera. We'll have to see more reviews in the mean time Posted via RS Mobile |
