Anyone know good stores in vancouver?
looking for some high quality cameras (hd) possibly, and streaming capabilities...

Check out the Spy Store.. not sure if they have HD but they have some cameras there.

HD and Megapixel ip camera's exist but are pricey.

When you crop the photo it pretty much sells itself.

Try these guys. Dont bother going to the stores mentioned above people dont know what their talking about. These guys are are large supplier of security hardware. Located on Canada way near BCIT beside the BCAA building.

There's also ADI/Burtek across the street, just at the end of Gardner... but they're a wholesaler so they might not sell to you directly (AFAIK Tri-Ed is wholesale-only as well).

*on a side note*

was installing a 4 camera system today at clients house. The house is brand new already pre-wired for camera system. station Z for power, cat 5e for video.

red/yellow, green /black for power to 12vdc power supply in a box. (not indivial transformers). Orange cat5 to positive onto video balun. orange/white to negative on balin. 3 of the cameras work fine, but the 4th one says video loss on dvr. After abuot 5 min, the 4th camera's balun on the dvr started heating up and melting. I quickly disconnected thinking maybe there is a short somewhere. Toned out each pair cable on the cat5, They all checked out fine. Toned out the power, everything is good. Even tried runnning power on cat5, still says video loss. Tested with 3 other cameras, tested with about 4 different pairs of baluns. STill say video LOSS..... What is Wrong? :yuno:

Work for a smaller local company called LPS Loss Prevention Systems. We do mostly commercial/industrial stuff - main clients are Petro Canada and Cactus Club. I'm actually writing this right now sitting in the Kelowna Cactus Club waiting for them to close and the customers to all leave so we can start re-wiring to add a bunch of new cameras: replacing the GeoVision shitbox with a new 32-channel Vigil hybrid with 12TB of RAID6 storage, 19 new analog cameras and 7 high-def IP cameras. Gonna be an interesting week.

Looks like mostly no-name Chinese crap.

What type (make/model) of baluns are they? It sounds like power is getting into the line somehow... could be possible if they're the type that use RJ45 jacks with power pass-thru. It's also possible that a somewhere along the line, someone stapled or nailed through the two wires.

I have one of their wifi cams in my garage. It's pretty cheap. Good IR at night, streaming online. Can access it any time anywhere, even on my iphone.

Soundy do you have any experience with ubiquiti networks stuff? I have some of their wireless access points and they are amazing, though the build quality is as you'd expect given the ridiculously cheap price, plastic-y and flimsy.

They also make security cameras that look impressive and are dirt cheap, and really slick looking software that's totally free.

i'm thinking i might convince one of our warehouses to pick a few up and see how they go.

Haven't used Ubiquiti myself... know lots of integrators who do, and love it. The Nanostation line is especially popular with surveillance guys, it seems. I see a lot of their stuff in big outdoor installs - it may look and feel cheap, but from everything I've read, it's rock-solid and performs really well.
