Tv Setup - is this possible?
 

I want to put a tv in my bedroom but there is no cable outlet. Is there any sort of wireless device that will send the cable signal from an outlet 1 floor down up to my room?
I'm not even sure where to start looking. I want to be able to watch something different from what people are watching downstairs.

Shaw has said there is no way to "install" an outlet. I would have to use a splitter and run a wire from the closest outlet.

Any ideas if what I want to do is possible?

**Mod note - I'm not sure if this is the correct section. I assumed Audio/Video was for cars only.

well yeah run it up through your crawl space, cut a little hole in your room and install a cable socket

Slingbox is if i want to watch on pc, but i don't want to do that. I want to watch tv on a tv.

OP, just run a cable. If you're that picky, open the wall, run a cable, patch the wall and repaint.

It's a Wireless Cable TV Extender. You should figure out what frequency will work best for you (2.4Ghz vs 5.8Ghz I believe.) This unit is a little pricey but I'm sure you can find something similar for a little less online.

I've also seen one of those As Seen On Tv products in the past. It's called X10's Wireless Video Sender and sells for about $70. Cheap product, quality will probably be shitty on all of them, but then again, you're using standard cable so there isn't much quality to begin with.

Hardwire is the best way to go. Wires run on top of drywall look ugly and you don't want to rip open any walls? Run it on your exterior walls and drill into your room :D Just seal the hole with some ductseal or silicone after.

Shaw will pick the easiest way out of the situation as they get paid per point or drop whatever they call it , so if its going to take the guy 2 hours to do instead of the typical 15 minutes he will say it is impossible

i am an electrician and im willing to bet it can be done easily with the right know how , id help you if i was in vancouver

if you seriously want it done , calling an electrician or sound/security company to fish the wires though your walls so you wont even notice them , it will most likely be cheaper/reliable than the whole wireless route

Shaw can run a cable from their box to your room for $50. I don't see why they won't do it. Do you live in a house or townhouse? From what you said you want the cable to be run from downstairs to upstairs i assumed you don't live in an apartment.

especially when it comes to home audio/video

It's a lot easier, cheaper, and less head ache to run a wire to the tv. I tried video senders before and most of the time, the picture or audio would break up or is not in sync with each other. Also there's a learning curve with these new equipment so expect to spend an hour or more to get everything up and running smoothly. More equipment just means more potential problems.
