I think the lack of respect towards mods causes people to lose respect for the position. And the perception of vice versa happening fuels that disrespect.

I find it absolutely disappointing that chat was shut down based on whining from a couple of trolls and that the powers that be, haven't spent enough time on there to make an accurate assessment on what really goes on in there.

Prospective users could apply for membership. If they are approved for membership, they are agreeing to abide by XXX rules. If they don't, they can be banned no questions asked and a screen shot of their bannable offence is posted in a public forum for all to see.

The rules need to be black and white, and maybe make one of the regulars of chat, a mod for chat and give them the power to temporarily ban users for X amount of time. Less stress for the admin team, and if problems persist they can relay messages to global mods to deal with it.

^yes and people can only be banned for violating the rules. No banning people for what's not on the rules, and only ban people (in the permanent sense) when they are absolutely guilty of breaking the rules.

There are at least 5 mods that are regulars on there and at least 5 more that come on several times a week. I doubt SG asked any of their opinions on the closure before actually shutting it down because I'm sure a majority of them would agree that it could run smoothly with only minor changes to how it's moderated.

Whats the point of having moderators if admin doesn ask for or take their advice?

i'm not advocating anyone should depart from RS, love it here, but the members that were active on the chat could become friends on social media site or create a page to chat on if RS feels it's stand on the chat segment of RS should remain discontinued.
