how to connect to cable/dsl modem via non router

hi there, does anyone know how to directly connect one of my pc's directly to cable modem and have a router and the rest of the household computers connected seperately ? I want my main pc for gaming/torrents to be free and not behind router/firewalls. I don't like hassle of port forward and DMZ because they are not working for me. I need a solution! thanks!

buy a switch. plug in model to one of the ports on the switch, PC to another, Router to another.

Be extremely careful going direct to modem though...
Also if forwarding to DMZ dosen't work for you... I'm not sure that this will either. Is your PC on static IP or dynamic?

hmm, I was at best buy earlier looking at switch but was not too sure on how it works. I believe I have static and dynamic? I tried both. I am actually trying to fix port forwarding issue for my bro's COD MW3 game. I have tried everything on google and forums explaining how to open NAT:STRICT to NAT:OPEN in the game , in order to join game servers. I port forwarded the correct ports for the game and even tried putting the pc on DMZ. Not sure what it could be. At my friend's house, his router does not even have port forward and everything is open and fine for the NAT:

get a new modem.

Im with telus and i had the old siemens modem that was fucken horrible for gaming because always had NAT problems.
Well that modem finally blew the fuck up and they replaced it for free.
This new one plugged out of the box and everything has been heaven ever since

I don't think it is the modem..I have a new motorola from shaw. All of the other COD games, the NAT is OPEN. Its just for MW3, it is STRICT. I've read about other people currently having the same issue. Some don't even need to change any settings, their routers are on stock.

a switch cant be connected directly to the cable modem.. you need a router, unless you get a managed switch??

Try plugging your Xbox's cable into another port if it's hard-wired to the modem. I have that piece of shit Siemens and that worked a couple of times for me. If it's a wireless Xbox, try erasing the available network from the settings and re-add it, that may work to give your Xbox fresh settings.

check if you opened port 80
if it is open, call shaw. Sometimes its blocked on their side.

the switch thing is what you want to do for a direct connection to the internet.

if you were on Telus, you'd get 2 IPs available for your service, which is ok. 1 for gaming PC, 1 for router. I guess Shaw doesn't provide 2 IP addresses for a household.

no, it's doable with newer modems, i know the motorola ones can assign a max of 3 IPs on their own or something like that.

Get Shaw SMC Cable modem. Get 2 IPs from Shaw. Plug your PC in one of the ports on the modem. Plug router with all other PCs in the other port.
