Commercial License and alcohol

It was recently brought to my attention by a co-worker, that if you have a commercial drivers licence (Class 1, 2, 3, or 4), it includes a zero alcohol restriction.

Meaning, even if I'm off the clock, driving my car home, I can't have any alcohol in my system or am subject to penalty. His explanation was that ICBC considers me to be a professional driver 24/7 and as such, cannot be driving with alcohol in my system.

I searched ICBC's site and went through my books but couldn't find anything.

Is this true? Any links?

Thanks.

All restrictions are listed on the back of your physical licence card. I've yet to see that restriction on anything but a Class 7 L or N licence.

That's part of the CVSA criteria, but not enforced in BC.

And that aside, individual employers of commercial drivers may have their own zero-tolerance policies as well.
