Dog wont eat
 

I have a problem, my parents have fed my dog too much human food and now she refuses to eat her dog food.
What can i do to get her to eat again?

Stop feeding it human food. It's simple. Also only serve the food at specific times so the Dog knows that it's "dinner time" It won't starve itself to death. You need to untrain it.

Don't feed it for a few days. It's an animal, treat it like one.

No need to starve it. Put his food out at the same time each day and take it away after 15 minutes, regardless of how much has been eaten.

Also, have a talk with your parents. I want my dogs raised a certain way and I don't appreciate people screwing with it in a negative way.

it's the same as switching food brands. 25%dog food 75% human food for 2 weeks, 50/50 another 2, etc. etc. Don't switch too fast or the dog's stomach won't adjust and u'll have to deal with diarreha

loooool thats exactly what happend with my dog and my gf's mom when my gf was living at her moms our dog would stay with her as well and my gf's mom would feed him all sorts of shit so that he would start liking her! That shit made angry as fuck!:heckno:

Last time my nephew tried to give my dog veggies under the table, I told him I'd cut his hands of and feed it to her.

My dog has the same problem. I fed him too much human food for about a week and the following week he refused to eat his dog food. A good way to solve this is just by mixing human and dog food together in his/her meals and day by day remove some of the human food. Eventually the dog will start eating the normal dog food. If this doesnt work then starving is the only thing that comes to mind.

This is how you should do it, slowly reintroducing dog food.

A 180 degree change in diet is bad for your dog stomach.

I use human scraps for training, I also add some in my dogs raw diet. If they try to wait out for it though then dinner/breakfast just gets put away and they have to wait for the next meal. If they are feeding too much human scraps then maybe just ask them to tone it down. Just mention that a bit is ok, but too much is unhealthy. If they are living with the dog as well it's just as much theirs and everyone raises them differently. Heck my 18mnth old daughter throws out some of her cheerios on the floor for the dog to get constantly (she thinks she's training the dog).

my husky had the same problem. eventually they will realize you're not giving them anymore human food so they will start eating the dog food. the key is consistency. if someone in your family feeds them human food again, you'll have to start over.

like most cases, it's more about training the humans than it is training the dog.

and if your dog still shows opposition of food and doesnt eat, then you should just leave it at there, pretend that you are not concerned (no eye contact with the dog) and eventually your dog is going to HAVE to eat the food

Ugh my dad feeds my dog human food too. Soo irritating. Best way is to put out the food for 15 min in the morning and then at night. Take it away if he doesn't eat it. He will it once he gets hungry enough.

My dog wakes up at 5:30am exactly every day to eat and he will refuse to go back to sleep until he is fed. But it is a good way to get me up and to the gym. lol

What does the dog whisperer always say? Rehabilitate dogs, train humans? Humans are fantastic at fucking things up. I feel your pain, that has to be sooo annoying.

try throwing the pebbles around...i know when my dog was young, i made food time into play time. threw pebbles one by one and made my dog chase it. over time she would just eat it herself

My dog used to be a picky dog because the family keeps feeding it human food. Basically I made them stop feeding the dog. Then everyday I would have dinner let the dog watch, then feed the dog after dinner.

After about a week the dog knows he has no choice but to eat dog food.

Its going to be hard since you need your family to commit.

I fed my dog with boiled chicken everyday like once a day only in the evenings then the rest its up to her to eat the dog food. I just leave the kibble in the kennel so when she feels like eating she just go there crab some kibbles.
