HELP! iphone kept uploading data??? how to diagnose?

My gf iphone kept on uploading data and I can't tell why
her usual data usuage is around 200MB per month, this month it shot up to 2GB+
so I downloaded a data monitor app and notice her phone kept on uploading data automatically (not much downloading)

weird thing is also it tends to use up all the bandwidth mostly at around 11pm-12pm only. (when her iphone is connected to the home wi-fi, the network speed will slow to a crawl...e.g 500ms+ ping, 0.50Mbs instead of <9ms ping and 7MBs)
I know it is her phone cause once I shut off her wi-fi, everything goes back to normal.

Is there anyway to know what is causing the network usage? I pretty much deleted every single one of her apps on the phone but the problem still persist

Is there any data monitor apps that will tell you where and what apps the traffic is coming from?

Thanks for help!!!

Bring it to apply maybe @@
or maybe back up her phone and do a hard reset.

What os is she on? Did she update to IOS 5 recently? If so expect the cloud service. Maybe she set it to backup her phone to iCloud. If so try removing iCloud off the phone and see how it is. Go setting, iCloud, either click delete or turn everything off. Let me know if it works. If not I'll think of something else.

They won't look at it if it is jailbroken. Plus they will want to update it to the newest firmware.

Does she have any app running in the background? What apps are installed through cydia? No tethering programs right?

potential virus?

Are there no data transfer managers for iphone? Programs that keep track of all data transfer history, and can tell you exactly how much data is used by which programs, and even give you warnings if you are on pace to reach your limit?

btw I don't get why someone who doesn't even know what data is being transferred on their phone needs to be jailbroken for...

So she's too cheap to pay $1 for games?

There is more than just free games on anjailbroken iPhone. You can unlock it (might be why it is on such an old firmware), themes, tethering apps, and other stuff apple don't allow.

I closed all the background apps already, tried normal restart and hard restart

There are many apps that can tell you how much dl/ul the phone is getting, but I can't find any apps that can tell you which program/process is doing the dl/ul

any idea?

I used to do it omy 3GS so I can play games for free. Now with my new iphone I didn't even bother to jailbreak it. There is enough free games to keep my busy and honestly I don't even use 904 of the software on my 3gs so no point it jailbreak it any longer.

a couple bucks for games vs some massie overage bill. hmm.

This is why non-tech people shouldn't fiddle with things unless they're prepared to do the research and have SOME basic knowledge.

that's the app I am using, doesn't say which program/process the traffic is coming from (I tried 4-5 different apps already, none of them tells you which process is using the data)

Did a network reset, phone reset...same thing
tried removing the sim card, still the same thing

gonna do complete restore if i can't find any solution tomorrow....(would rather not to so I don't have to backup and restore everything)

Is there actually a virus scanner for iphone?
