Air condition

My air conditioning just went out on my car tonight, not working at all. Anyone know places to have it looked at and repair in the vancouver/burnaby/richmond area?

Open your windows.. should be cold enough for ya.

What kind of car? I could say "any shop that fixes cars" but maybe if we know what you drive, we can direct you to someone with expertise on that model.

There are AC specialty shops, there is one on bridgeport and shell in richmond but I can't recall the name

What do you mean the ac in the car stop working? Like the light doesn't go on or are you just saying that because it doesn't clear the moisture from the windows?

Turn on the car, press the ac to the on position and observe the rpm. Does it ramp up a few 100 rpm or just remain?

AC removes the moisture from your car in the winter, without it you'll have foggy windows all winter - ask me how I know :(

It's an Acura tsx, the light goes on when I turn on the a/c, but no air is blowing out so it's pretty much done/broken. I would prefer to have a shop diagnose the issue and fix it for me. Also, generally how much do shops charge for a AC diagnose?

Defrost vs. Demist

i always knew having AC on worked better, but didn't know the exact scientific reasoning behind it.

If your blower doesn't blow any air at all look for a fuse under the dashboard/hood for one that says "blower"

because if there's no air moving through it's a different problem than a/c failure.

Does the heat work? If that doesn't work either, it's probably just the fan switch, the most likely part to break out of the whole system. Any shop should be able to do this.

It's strange my ac worked today, but afterwards when I restarted my car it didnt. In addition, when it was working, it did not blow as strong as before. Could this be an electrical issue? and if so where can I find places to buy new relay and fuses

jlenko 12-05-2011 08:11 PM

I'm guessing... and correct me if I'm wrong here Jeff89... you're calling the HVAC controls "ac" and not specifically the air conditioning part of it. You mean the blower motor? aka fan?

HVAC = Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning.

I dunno what you're talking about... I have no AC on either of my cars.. and I never have foggy windows for more than a few seconds. You sure you don't have a leak somewhere? Even my convertible (which had AC... but I removed it... weight savings! Ha ha.. just kidding, it wouldn't fit with the motor I shoe-horned in there...), has no problems with moisture.

Jeff89 12-05-2011 09:51 PM

Yeah, the fan is out I suppose. But the werid thing is, sometime it works somtimes it doesn't.

dangonay 12-06-2011 05:31 AM

Fan is bad or the blower resistor (probably transistorized speed controller in your case) has gone.

Does the fan blow at the same speed no matter where the speed control is set? Is the fan noisy now or noisy in the past? Did it literally go from working to non-working virtually instantly? My money is on the speed controller - they go bad all the time.

Google is your friend. TSX had problems with wiring harness for blower. I'd check that first.
