Place to get car scanned?

I have a 01' cavalier z24 and just recently started having a few minor problems (which may be bigger now).

My check engine light came on and currently whenever I go up a hill it feels like it bogs out. I have very little power which is worse in 3rd gear or higher. If I try to accelerate in a higher gear it seems to do the same thing.
At first I thought perhaps my fuel filter was clogged, so I changed it, then perhaps my spark plugs needed replacing, so I changed them out. I did these before the engine light came on and although it is much better, it is not 100% better (used to bog out on 1st and 2nd gear on flat ground).

Anyways, I wanted to see if I could get my cpu scanned to see what the engine code is and figure if it is time to dump the car and buy a new one or try to fix the problem. Can anyone help me find a place that will scan it for inexpensive?

If you really don't want to spend any money, you can always buy an obd2 scanner and then return it afterwards...

I did this at Walmart like 3 years ago when I got laid off and couldn't afford to spend much money in addition to what I was already expecting to be an expensive repair...

I think Lordco and Napa will scan your car for free.

Princess Auto has code readers and scanners starting at $80... keep an eye on their sales, sometimes they go at half price.
