Anyone working as an Air Traffic Controller?

Hello RS.
It's a pretty small pool of people but I'd figure what the hell I'll give RS a try.

I was just accepted and invited to the second round of testing, which involves the ATC Simulation testing (new) and in depth assessment.

They don't release any details but I would like to know at LEAST what I'm going to be assessed on.

Pointers?

I didn't get beyond the first round of testing :( My math skills are fail.

had to take a course in bcit while getting my ppl. air traffic controller is stressing. having to manage loads of planes at times and remember. their life is in your hands.

it was fun and if you get a job, they pay very good. was told starting 80k plus but very stressing. i believe you can take a pt course for air traffic. sign up and see if its a job you would like to have.

I play flight control on my Ipod and I landed 88 planes :) I think I'd make a pretty ATC?!?
Someone post the online test - would like to try it out.

wish it was that simple. but its not that simple.

you have to gauge the distance of each plane, sometimes a plane makes emergency landing so you have to put other planes in a pattern, handing off planes to other atc while monitoring other planes. sometimes you have 1 landing strip so your in in charge of both departing and incoming so you have to see which plane has priority. what happens if your radar fails. you still have to guide planes

all this sometimes in a dark room and sometimes very long hours. atc people have been known to sleep on a job because of working too many consecutive shifts.

if you look discovery mayday show, there have been some fatal incident caused by air traffic controller.

amuro - hope you do great.

I have a coworker who is only 21 and has a degree to be a ATC and he was explaining to me what you need to know like the weight classification of each aircraft, speeds, aerodynamics etc.. and damn it seems like a shit load to know

A hell of a lot of training goes into controllers.

But come to think of it, any profession requires a certain skill-set and education; ATS is no different. Yeah, controllers need to know all that jazz about aircraft. It's daunting to anyone, no doubt about it. But just as daunting is the knowledge required for any other vocation. I'll bet that there are ATC personnel leaning back in their chairs thinking "damn, imagine having to learn what every part of an engine does and how to fix it... that's a shit load to know", or the same for, say, being a doctor, scientist, accountant, etc.

TC, how'd it go?

make an account to access the test
you need to write a 250 word mini essay about why you want to do this before you can take any tests

Waiting for a response still.. I guess they want to make the best of their 3-4 weeks.

On another note... just finished my Cathay pacific interview here in Hong Kong yesterday.... even though there were only 5 people there, I somehow managed to meet another Revscene member. Small world.
