hi guys, yet i have another question. when i go out and start my 1996 toyota camry, i always get a different time length in starting. sometimes, it cranks right away and sometimes it takes a ittle longer to crank. put my voltmeter to the battery and turn turned my hadlights on for 15 seconds to get rid of the surface charge. 12.4 volts coming out of the battery. should i give it a charge? should i replace the cables? i as planning to replace the negative battery cable cuz the terminal isnt grabbing the post to well. any advice?

How many volts do you get when you hold the throttle at 2000rpm?

If you want to test your charging system at home it needs to be loaded just holding the motor at 2000rpm isnt enough. You need to turn on all your accessories, heater, rear defrost, all lights, etc. Then hold at 2000rpm and check the voltage. If it is low it can be many more things then the alternator.

Ok so im getting around 14.38-14.4V at 2000rm with ac, reardefrost, fans at max speed, deck, and headlights running. Is that good?

just because you've got 12.whatever volts at the battery doesn't mean it's good. that's what load tests are for, your battery should be at least 9.6v@1/3 of your crank amps or whatever, can't remember right now (baked). you'd need an AVR machine to do a load test. is it cranking slowly? or taking more cranks than normal?

hold at half the cold cranking amps for 15 seconds :)

More crank than normal. Always different
