I used to go there too, but nowadays every floor on the library is packed.
There are areas around 6th floor AQ that are relatively quiet other than the occasional TA walking by. That's where I do most of my studying now if I need to be at school.

was talking to a prof..

so kids in his classes are not showing up, get less than 10% on quizzes and bomb the midterm, and they complain that class is not fair

:fuckthatshit: skippers

i don't have the will power to study at home, seriously I'm like a fucking child,

unless i go out of my way and force myself to go somewhere i can't study.

it's too easy for me to turn on my tv/ps3/whatever the fuck else i have at home to procrastinate or jump into bed.

i also try not to drive when i go studying to force myself to stay longer.

some people can not study at home due to other distractions and the feel you get being unmotivated.

I love studying in the library as I can stay there for hours and get work done. If i do homework at home, it stimulates me and I all of a sudden get a sensation to vomit

I think this is key. When I study in the library, I'm a lot less likely to be fucking around. Like you said, the ventilation sucks, space is cramped, and lighting is shit, but at least you know shit's gonna get done. Go anywhere else, you'd have friends dropping by and shooting the shit and before you know it, it's 4 hours later and you've made no progress.

I always just use empty classrooms at langara.

Some courses require a high GPA to remain in the faculty or be able to get into post-graduate studies (ie. med school). I am not surprised to see some people just crack under pressure.

I wouldn't be surprised if the girl was getting a degree in pharmacy or trying to get into med school and was stressed out, while the people who were talking loudly are going to graduate with a minor in basket-weaving to get a job at starbucks.

I did some studying in the Library and some at home, but like many before have pointed out...there are a lot of distractions at home.

I found some days at the library were GREAT for studying, but others were horrible. When I was at Kwantlen, I would try and book a study room b/c as Geoc pointed out....some were just there for a bullshit degree, while I was not.

At SFU, I never really dug the library atmosphere....a little creppy, kinda dark, and smelly. Plus, it was always packed. My dept.'s common room in the Education building was AWESOME! So quiet and had no walk-thru traffic.

Though this chick seems straight-up crazy, I get her frustration. Who the fuck goes to the library to socialize?

I had to tell a dude once to get the fuck off the phone or leave...and those people who BLAST their music on shitty earphones?! who does that?

GabAlmighty 12-10-2011 03:40 PM

Aren't all degrees bullshit these days?

See, it's the way she acted. There's much better ways of getting people to shut up. Although I don't have this problem because I don't go to the library. I bet if she had just called out "shut the fuuuuuuck up" it may have worked and would have probably caused a couple chuckles, win win.

Pretty much. I used mine for 7 years....then changed careers. I am reminded of them when I make my student loan payment though....yay me!

Depends on how you obtain them. If you just go to school, fuck around enough to pass a few test and do nothing else then probably.

I don't think that was his question. So you get that degree then what. Good lucking finding a job after that $50k education.

Not Engineering. Probably about 60% of what I learned from school I use on the job, and only because most of the rest was the math and physics fundamentals needed to understand that 60%.
