Hosting a Minecraft Server?

Ok so me and a couple of buddies have pooled in some money to buy a minecraft server but we have no idea where to start and what to buy. Anyone here familiar with minecraft servers that can show me the way?

Would appreciate it.

And we want to buy a monthly subscription to a server, not host off hamachi or anything like that.

I think few of them know how to host onee..!

Host with home computer. You don't need much to host a mine craft server. Unless you think a lot of people is going to join.

Well we did this before using Hamachi and our connections were terrible. Can't host more than 2 people without lag.

Anyone else have any suggestions before I head over to minecraft forums?

if you want to pay for one, multiplay servers are really good and very mod-friendly. Just choose what mods from a list you want to put on your server, no manual installing if you dont want to.

i think they have a 50% off xmas deal going on or something as well.

What are the recommended specs for a server? You might just want to set up a cloud instance at an hourly rate or whatever.

No idea. I know nothing about minecraft servers. We only want to play for this break before school starts maybe 10 hours maximum a week between 4 people.

Building own computer. Max out RAM. Don't worry about CPU or graphic cards much.

Use www.ragezone.com

You'll find everything there.

Ya but were are you going to host it?

like I said, set up a cloud server. We use Dedicated Server Hosting, Cloud Servers, & Managed Hosting Plans but also Cloud Computing, Managed Hosting, Dedicated Server Hosting by Rackspace is good too. Of course Amazon is the biggest, but the setup is more complicated than the first two
