SSD drive installation question

Picked up a OCZ vertex plus sata2 120gig SSD. Wanting to put it into my tower which has Sata connectors. Where can i pick up a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor to fit my tower bay? Temporarily can I just leave it plugged in sitting on bottom of tower?

NCIX, Memoryexpress

You can just leave it hanging if you don't move the case around. SSDs have no moving parts

Presto 12-16-2011 05:47 PM

Your OCZ didn't include the mounting plate? It's embedded into the package.

SkinnyPupp 12-16-2011 05:50 PM

I assume it's used since it's like a year old

Came with no bracket. Purchased brand new from Dell last Monday. They had it on for $109 plus tax and free shipping.

SSD's come in two package types. One for laptops with no bracket and one with brackets for desktops. You can just ductape it to the case.

double sided-tape to the bottom of your case or to the backside of the motherboard tray should do the trick

StylinRed 12-16-2011 11:55 PM

your towers accessories/hardware pack might have a bracket too to use 2.5" devices

if you watch the samsung video with 34??.. SSDs i think, he left it hanging out of the case which is fine if you do not move it. (as suggested already)

depends on how old the case is... newer cases come built with 1 or 2 slots for SSDs

Acura604 12-17-2011 07:36 AM

I think I will just leave it dangling or use Velcro but damn,
I need another one of those sata data cables to complete this.

Just gonna dump my o/s and WoW install on this.

^that's a messy job! :ahwow:

Just leave it on top of the bracket below the hard drive.

or between the HDD and DVD Rom drive??

Acura604 12-17-2011 09:10 PM

done.

secured it with 1 screw along the bracket above the HDD.

Win7 loads up in less than 30seconds which is definitely nice... Warcraft runs great..almost instant loading.

FerrariEnzo 12-18-2011 06:55 AM

my computer takes 35sec to boot up from a cold start.., im running the WD raptor drive...

your SSD should take 15-20secs...

SkinnyPupp 12-18-2011 07:18 AM

Loading windows depends fully on what software you have installed. A fresh install may take 15 seconds, but add a bunch of software that starts up, and you could be looking at minutes. So there's no point in comparing one drive or windows install to another.

I've got a spare Vertex2 bracket you can have.

PM me if you want it :)

Culverin 12-18-2011 01:27 PM

Ditto. My case came with 2.5" mounting points so my bracket is sitting unused.
