Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway from Shaw?

Shaw gave us some kinda upgrade, they replaced my router with this "Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway" thing, is it any good and is there anything I can do to make it better?

Why would you want to make it better? What's wrong with it?

First thing I had them do was switch it to "bridge" mode so I could use it with my existing router.

Well he didn't provide enough info. He may need to keep it in the current mode of he doesn't have a router already.

I have an existing router, they removed it and put this thing in. I'm mainly concerned about how secure it is, how well is passes data, stuff like that.

It's as good as your average router. If you have a pretty good router then do what we've done and contact shaw to have your modem placed in bridge mode so you can use them both together. Bridge mode just turns the cisco into a modem.

No reason it shouldn't be as secure as any other wireless router - make sure you change the SSID (hide it if you prefer), set a good WPA password, change the admin password... all the usual things.

thanks gents, I'll just leave it for now then, as my router is nothing special atm.
