Help! Got an American Express Gift Card from a Rebate.. No one accepts it?!

Hi everyone, hopefully someone here will be able to help answer my questions! I built a computer for my girlfriend recently, and we sent in the mail-in rebate. Well, we received it, but it came in the form of a $20 American Express Gift Card. So far, we have tried spending it on gas at superstore, food, and various clothing stores, but no one will accept it! Where can we spend this Gift Card?

Thank you for taking the time to read and help me out!

Probably Costco - AmEx is the only CC they take.

Rebate gift cards suck. What I usually do with gift cards is go and buy a gift card for an online store that I frequently go to (for example Amazon) for the exact amount of the rebate gift card. That way you don't lose out on the $1-$2 that's usually left behind after you spend most of the balance. (since not all stores will allow you to do multiple forms of payment like $2 on the gift card and the balance as cash or cc) You can usually do multiple forms of payment if you use a gift card on a purchase though. (i.e. GC for $20 and the CC for the rest)

I'm not sure if you can do the same in store at a store though. I've never tried.

save it, when you go to the states, you can use it...

I'll buy it off you :troll:

all the major retailers accept it... by major i mean major chain stores.

I bought my Galaxy Nexus using a bunch of these gift cards I got from buying computer parts for my office (boss gave me permission to keep the cards for myself of course :D)

i got one from rebate in the US...thinking the funds would be in USD...tried ordering amazon.COM GC and after checkout I ended up cutting it up (had my name on so was just super cautious)....found out later it was declined because of the exchange.

now I'm stuck with a cut up GC that can only be used online...

but to answer your question Costco is your safest bet...just make sure you tell the cashier the exact amount on it before she swipes or it'll automatically decline if it's over.

I just use it to pay my MSP always

Have you activated it properly? If you have it should work any where that takes Amex.
