Shock Rebuilding
 

Hey guys, I think one of my Koni shocks is leaking a bit so I'm wondering if there are any local shops that can fix it? I'm pretty sure it's just a seal that's done so I don't want to send it down to the US to get them fixed.

Only 4 places are authorized Koni rebuilders, and all 4 are in the US.

Your best bet is to send them to Pro-Parts in Calif. I believe Jason was the guy my friend talked to. He put a rush order on his and they were done in a few weeks.

I sent mine to Koni USA in Kentucky and it was a 10 week turn around time due to them being busy with NASCAR stuff.

dude already? i had more than 10k on my konis and they were fine.

some koni units go up to 100k without leaks.

Just because they are not leaking, does not mean the shocks don't need to be serviced.

But then again on a street car, you will probably never notice the shocks losing their performance with age.

Isn't Koni has life time warranty for their shock ?

They do against manufacturer defects but does not against worn out rubber seals ie normal wear and tear.

If you have 5 year warrenty on a new car, do you go back and try to get the tires or brakes warrentied?

Well the oil is not gushing out and splashing all over the place, but when it compresses a bit hard (ie. unexpected speed bumps) there will be a bit accumulated under the adjuster...so I think the upper O-ring seal might be done.

The shocks seem to be performing fine, but it's a bit unnerving to have this happen.

Yes Koni has lifetime warranty on regular shocks...but mine are SPSS3 valving so no lifetime warranty.

If you choose to ship it down to the States.. ship it via Point Roberts.. STOP AT THE CANADIAN CUSTOMS FIRST! Get a form that states you are getting the set serviced etc, you will need to show some kind of documentation and serial number of the shocks. Show the paperwork to the US side when they ask what you are doing etc. Remember to keep that piece of paper and show it to the Canadian Customs when you pick up the item.

I didn't do that when I shipped mine. I just showed them the receipt for the maintenance work on them and I was only taxed on the parts while the cost of service was not under the old GST.
I know my shocks didn't have serial numbers.

u can apply for a warranty on the shock, they'll send u a replacement first, then u mail back your old shock. you pay up front for the cost of the shock as a deposit, then they refund it to you when u send the core back. just go to the koni site and look for the warranty form.
