Am I being trolled here? Which posts equates to "I'm special and I'm doing to do things my way. I just wanted the internet to make me feel better about my shitty life."? I actually seriously went back and read all my posts.

There are several reasons I can think of that you're posting with these ignorant replies.

1) You failed to read the whole thread.
2) You lack the support of a family, friend, or lover when you needed it.
3) Somebody gave you negative opinion on your goals in life.
4) You're trolling, looking for internet fights to boost your ego.
5) According to my analysis, it appears that I didn't give you the attention you were expecting after you posted with a link you found on google with lawyer statistics, and somebody told you to "STFU because something must have triggered me to choose this path."
5a) You can't handle rejection well. When you willingly help someone and they say "it's okay", you brush them off with a "fine, fuck you too" type of attitude.

You got some serious issues to be coming onto a forum and suddently start shit with someone looking for approval whether their current job is a stable income job.

How do I know this? #1 you didn't graduate. #2 you are just now deciding to finish high school. #3 you are planning on taking 1.5 YEARS to finish high school EVEN AFTER I informed you about how you could obtain the equivilancy in 2 DAYS. Yet you flat out ignored that because taking 1 course at a time is "part of your plan".

Using the car as an excuse is lame. Sell it, have someone take over the lease or payment. Used cars are plentiful. If you just need it for transportation, there is an ABUNDANCE of cheap used cars for sale right now, that fit that bill. ^btw, to the OP, you need to make sure with universities/law faculties that they accept the High School equivalency as equivalent to them for competitive entry into University as opposed to normal High School courses. (e.g. for UBC science they strictly look at Math 12, English 12, 2 other provincially examinable courses) for your entry average

If he gets a job in the mail room at a law firm, I would be surprised. Forget law school.

Yeah I've read online that GED is not equivalent to a high school diploma so even completing that might not help me down the road if the university/law faculties expects otherwise.

I said ditch the car you owe 2 years on. It makes perfect sense to get rid of your payments for a vehicle you only have to put gas and maintenance into. That monthly payment could be put towards your school savings.

She now works in New York and earns $175,000/year.
She is 27.

If school is not your first priority you will never succeed at any academic level beyond high school, if even that.

Sometimes unsoliciated, even unwanted advice is the best kind you'll receive because it forces you to think about things you don't necessarily want to consider. I'm not criticizing you for leaving high school early or wanting to drive a decent car, but I can tell you school being a priority is not something that can easily be turned on or off. If maintaining a certain income level and subsequent standard of living is a priority, such a long degree might not be realistically right for you, because you will unavoidably be poor in school. There's nothing wrong with that, everyone's different. It's just something you should very seriously consider. Don't explode :)

Thanks bud. I think you are right. Sometimes you can't have two things at the same time, either give up work and pursue my career, or drive nice cars and buy materialistic things but work a night shift job.

People have also told me that if you were never a school person, it's rare you'll ever become one. dachinesedude nailed it in this thread for me. I know my strength and weaknesses and being in a office is probably not for me. It also comes down to realist versus idealist. Whichever one you are is important on how you pursue your goal.

Indecisive is what is stalling my education here. So I am going to take slow while I decide. I have friends who went head on on their education and discover in the end that some of the courses they took were useless.

I have a friend that spent $20,000 on learning how to be a chef and was never mentioned again. That is what I don't want to go through.

This is what you don't get. She's not fortunate. She worked her ass off to get to where she is.

You asked for a reality check in your first post. You got what you asked for, stop whining because it wasn't what you wanted to hear.

Yup, I know it's difficult to accept that, but it's totally true. I also know, the older you get the less enjoyable or perhaps tolerable being a starving student can be. It's easy to rely on transit or drive a beater if you're attending school in your teens or early twenties, but that all changes as you get older and are expected to have a level of material status.

I agree, you either are or are not a person geared towards an academic education. A person can have incredible drive to succeed in life and feel that academia is the route to that, but if that person cannot take some level of enjoyment in writing essays and studying it will be an infinitely more difficult path for them than for a person who does. Lacking a natural inclination towards academia is not a barrier to success however, because if you have the drive to succeed then it is only a matter of finding the right path where that quality can be truly utilized.

If you have an interest in law, but can't see yourself confined to an office surrounded by papers, perhaps you should speak to an RCMP recruiter. Alternatively, if you like problem solving and working with people, there's absolutely nothing lesser about vocational training in comparison to academics. You could own a business, be independent, work with people and solve tough problems as a electrician, carpenter or plumber.

I have a friend who spent $30,000 on art school, only to find out that lacking the ability to draw a stick figure precluded his ability to succeed in that field. In doing that though, he pursued a passion and learned a lot about himself, which lead him to his current career. It's not money wasted if you learn from the experience and grow as a person.

Indecisiveness stalled my education, I simply could not settle on a path. I took courses in all subjects, I researched a dozen careers in depth, worked in multiple different fields and eventually almost gave up and settled. I then out of shear frustration booked two months off work during the summer, everyday I went to the beach and tanned, a bit extreme, but it worked. Amidst my time staring at girls in bikinis my mind cleared, the general stresses of life and constant work and school cleared and I was able to really think about myself. It cost me $8000 in wages, but if I consider that as money spent, it was the best I've ever spent, because through that I finally settled on a career. Instead of just picking something and going with it for the next forty years, I thought of something I had never considered before and am pursuing it now.

P.S.
I've been working on quitting smoking for a few weeks myself, I'm down to one or two a day from ten a day. The addiction doesn't subside easily, but it definitely has lessened from a need to just a want.

It's clearly not worth it, dude. I assume it's a dead-end job with no opportunity to grow. You want a career, not a job. A career will feed you until the day you die and leave some for your kid. A job will not. Do you want your kids to work graveyard?

And while there's the cliche "It's never too late to start your career". There's only half truth in it. Companies always prefer young talents. You don't want to fight an uphill battle especially when you're already 26.

You're clearly growing dissatisfaction with your graveyard job, then why hanging on to it? Because the car? Not worth it. Because lifestyle? Not worth it. You need to make changes? Do it now.
