hopefully you get a good person person that can help you out, tho i'd be rather suspicious over a empty box too

They may be more inclined to believe you if just want a new copy. If you are asking for your money back...you may be fucked.

If you just want a new copy and they are giving you a hard time, ask them what they think you are getting out of the deal.

Phone or go in first thing...be honest and sincere.

^I want a copy of course. Going tomorrow with a buddy who use to work at that best buy so hopefully I'm ok. If not I will raise a shit storm on that manager.

shawn79 01-09-2012 01:08 AM

tell them that it didnt have a disk inside if they being dicks then... say

"you wanna play smart? ill call the cops. i want my money back"

LsquareD 01-09-2012 01:51 AM

Damn that's a rough situationl. Best of luck to you!

StaxBundlez 01-09-2012 01:58 AM

it's happened to me before..
I bought a game at EB in Vernon.. drove back to Vancouver and opened it and it was empty.. right before that one of my buddies was like.. "wouldn't it be funny if there was no game inside?". Turns out there wasn't a game inside.. I called the EB and told them what happened and they checked and realised that they had forgot to put the game inside the case.. They just told me to go pick it up at the closest EB.. they would call and straighten it out with them...

It was a PC game.. not a PS3 game.. so I could see how they would make that mistake since they don't keep the game inside the boxes..
Might be a little tougher with PS3 games since they're sealed..
best of luck to you..

Our local Best Buys have experienced this same issue a few times this New Year already. Hopefully they're equipped to protect the honest, paying customer by this point. Some thieves had been buying iPad's and taking them out, filling the boxes up with cement and then shrink wrapping them up again. Now, every iPad that gets returned brand new, has to be opened to make sure it's in there; basically making it an open box...

thats some crazy stuff, filling it with cement!
Anyways, this situation really does suck and I've never heard of it before but am very curious to hear how it ends up. Hopefully it all works out.

Yup. This happened to me. Bought an ipad2 online from Staples with stackable coupons (thanks RS!) but decided to return it and buy a used one from Senna. I never opened the package/cut the shrink wrap. At the return counter, the manager told the clerk to open the box to check. I was like wtf but okay sure. You do what you need to do to give me my refund.

I was returning a playbook and they opened it as well. I was like WTF??!! You guys are gonna lose out because you have to sell it as an opened box item. Now I understand why. But what would of happened if your/my box was empty? And by no fault of our own. :suspicious:

I guess we have to open it on the spot at the point of purchase if that's what we're afraid of. Of course, I'm sure that affects future return of the item somehow. Especially in the OP's case.

I always open package now to check (specially used disk, check for scratches).
Bought a ipad2 for a buddy from states bb. He opened and won't boot up & it was scratched. He took it in to apple , they told him best buy repackages used stuff (specially ipads) and sells them as new!

^ good stuff op

details on how it went down?

iwantaskyline 01-09-2012 06:33 PM

^Just told them exactly what happened, said I would have came back right away but it was past their closing time. Spotted the girl who actually grabbed the game for me from the cage and told her what happened. Was really nice and she told the customer service girl to give me a refund.

Wow, surprised it was actually that easy for you. Glad it was though.

glad to hear it worked out though, OP.

hotjoint 01-10-2012 09:43 AM

good to hear that everything worked out

fliptuner 01-10-2012 09:49 AM

Glad to hear everything went well for you. I'm actually surprised it turned out this way and the process was quite painless (no need to raise a stink, argue with CSR's, etc.).

Don't worry, if it didn't and you got screwed, I was ready to give you my copy anways.

dinamix 01-10-2012 11:05 AM

oldest trick in the book. buy game. use a razor to make small incision at the bottom. pry game out. re seal with heat shrinker wrapper machine.

i bought a new sealed xbox 360 game years back that was on craigslist

only to find that the owner took the DLC code out and repackaged everything :fuuuuu:

theres also been 3 occasions on craigslist where i meet with the person to buy the game only to find the disc isnt inside the case ( all 3 cases were by accident supposely and i did get the disc after just time+hassle)

Cartier Wearer. 01-10-2012 12:26 PM

PS3 Needs to get their shit together. First the playstation network is hacked by anonymous and now they cant at least make sure to make game packages tranlusent so people can see if theyre is a cd inside. It wouldnt be hard to impliment
