Where to get laptop repaired? My Dell laptop has a failing hard drive (plus a nasty virus). I've taken it to GoGoGeek on Oak & 60th, and they quoted me $130 for a new hard drive, plus 2 hours labour to move data from old hard drive to new hard drive and getting rid of virus. The total would come to $300. I'm not a computer technical guy at all - is this a reasonable price for the work/hard drive? Is there another place I should go? |
a 500gb 2.5" hd from Mem Express is $120, and $170 for 2 hrs of labor sounds about right - but they're probably just being conservative with their estimate - it should take that long to do (tho viruses might be a bitch) If you shop around, I'm sure you can get it for cheaper. Hell, even I'd charge you less than that... |
yikes $170 for the labor! if you dont have anything important on the drive, just buy a new hard drive and install windows yourself to save the painfully expensive cost. Or just go to one of the small shops at crystal and ask them for estimate (but buy the hard drive from ncix or some place like that) |
Buy a new hard drive yourself. Get a friend to help you for a lunch/6pack of beers. I'm sure you must have some technically-inclined friends in this day and age. |
