Apps for My Chinese Mother
 

So my mom recently got an iPad cus she feels like she's falling behind technology... lol, I thought it was cute and actually encouraged the iPad.

Oh, she speaks not a lick of English, nor does she read it very well.

I've downloaded the Sing Tao Daily app for her to look at newspaper stuff... and I taught her how to look up Chinese songs on Youtube and stuff like that, but what are some other Chinese apps that would be entertaining for her? If you guys can help me out and suggest some apps and describe their functions that would be great!

I'm not all that great in the Apps field cus I only get to play with an iPhone when i'm with my friends...

PPS, PPTV, CETV, YouKu, Tudou, CNTV, iNTD there are a lot more but thats what i recall

get your mom to search the itunes store in chinese (or type in chinese yourself) there's the "keyboard" where you can just draw out the words instead of typing so it makes it easier

i did that for cookbooks and found a tonne

there's also a google translator type app where you can type in english/chinese and get the translation/pronunciation but i cant remember the name


if you've got an address in china you can use you can make an account to access the itunes store in china so downloading apps would be easier

My mom just got an iPad two months ago.

She loves playing online mah jong.

And +1 to using china/hong kong address, she can pretty much browse through the chinese apps herself.

you can even search in english just type 'chinese (subject)' or 'china (subject)' and you'll get a lot of results that way too

iirc you don't need to download a special keyboard to hand write chinese, it should be built in. Search the language option in settings.

If it was my mother PPS is all she would need :lol
