^so you censor what words people can say because it affects your profit? Is that not what we are fighting in the the anti-SOPA thread? :fulloffuck:

If you can auto-censor words, surely you can just block certain linkages instead

!Aznboi128 01-19-2012 12:26 PM

it's just easier that way, and it's not profit. This site, the meets all cost money. Right now we're running off the owner's bank accounts and that simply isn't fair. We need the google ads to help us run this site.

announcement from here

I think one of the best things that Revscene could do to help eliminate the feeling of resentment towards the "officials" is release the true financial statements.

Redlines_Daily 01-19-2012 12:36 PM

I dont feel resentment, many of the mods are my friends. I love the site and support it as much as I can. Im proud to say I visit daily and often click the google ads to help support the site. Some time ago I PM'd the owner offering to donate money to RS, he didnt even bother to reply to me, so I don't have any sympathy either.

That being said, I feel very strongly against censorship regardless of the reason.

Speaking of that fat fuck,I saw him a few weeks ago at a Tim Horton's,this pig ordered like at least a dozen donuts for himself.

It really sucks how one fucking idiot can ruin & do so much damage to this site.

It's not censorship, no one is stopping anyone on this site from talking about m e g a u p l o a d, if it was real censorship, mods/admins would come in here and edit out manually any mention of that site or delete the post. Its just easier to ban the whole word to prevent people from linking illegal media sharing as the mods/admins can't be online every second to monitor for it.

I'm in no way a tech guy, so not sure if its possible to block out just a link url but I would think it would be much easier just to block the word and not take a chance at missing anything.

You're confusing purposeful censorship with RS's resolution to a dispute with Google. I, and I think RS, would agree with you censorship is wrong, but we needed a solution to a problem. Maybe we should work on a better solution that screens links at certain urls, but someone might claim censorship on that too.
Either way, we're working it out, but don't try to play it up as the same sort of censorship that's being fought regarding sopa/pipa. That's like blaming a company for not allowing NSFW material at work because of 'censorship'.

Redlines_Daily 01-19-2012 12:48 PM

thanks for the replies, perhaps I was too quick to criticize

!Aznboi128 01-19-2012 12:50 PM

hypediss 01-19-2012 12:50 PM

StylinRed 01-19-2012 12:51 PM

wow that's a little surprising

but i guess since they allowed streaming of video files that were uploaded to it is what got them nipped in the bud

there's still rapid share etc

Interesting fact: Kim Schlitz is the founder of mega-upload, he's a big car guy - I remember watching him in Gumball 3000 back in the early 2000's

After a Department of Justice-executed raid today on the file sharing site $$$$$$$$$$, hackers aligned with the online collective Anonymous have shut down the websites for both the DoJ and Universal Music Group, the largest record company in America.
Both universalmusic.com and justice.gov went down on Thursday afternoon, less than hours after it was revealed that $$$$$$$$$$ had been brought down by federal authorities and four people linked to the site, all outside of America, were arrested and charged with a conspiracy related to copyright infringement.
“It was in retaliation for $$$$$$$$$$, as was the concurrent attack on Justice.gov,” Anonymous operative Barret Brown tells RT on Thursday afternoon.
Brown adds that “more is coming” and Anonymous-aligned hacktivists are pursuing a joint effort with others to “ damage campaign raising abilities of remaining Democrats who support SOPA.”

Bullshit. Hello raring 3-400 pictures? It's much quicker to rar a few hundred pictures and then send the MU link for family and friends to download.

Great68 01-19-2012 01:29 PM

I never followed the whole google ad ban episode. Did Diggy post said copyrighted videos on purpose to screw with the site?
