ICBC CRS - Another person driving Hey guys, Just had a question about ICBC's Claim rate scale... My son driving my car for the day was involved in a at fault crash, in a 100% at fault crash, which side's CRS is affected? The driver driving the car (son), or the person registered on the car (me)? I know from previous experience (like 10 years ago) before that it's usually the person registered on the car. But recently I've heard (from friends at least) that both sides are affected. Also...does one have to have a vehicle registered under their name in order for CRS to go back from surcharge to discount level? Thanks! :D |
The driver would have their CRS affected. Unless the driver choose not to have an insurance policy upon renewal, then it would be the registered owner who is next up. |

or would both be affected under that circumstance? (a CRS on the owner because the driver chose not to have an insurance policy, and also a CRS on the driver for future insurance policies) Sorry for the questions just needed some clarification. :) |
Think about it as an escalating matter. Step 1 - At fault driver Step 2 - At fault owner If ICBC cannot collect extra premium from 1, then ICBC will catch 2. But they will always try to get 1 first at every renewal opportunity. If I understand your question correctly, the owner will get affected if the at fault driver does not have an ongoing policy. When or once the at-fault driver chooses to purchase a new policy for any vehicle, the accident previously will affect the driver's CRS, and no longer on the owner. |
Thanks for your help TRDood! Cheers! :) |
so if your son wasnt listed as one of the vehicle operator, you would get ding for the rate scale. if he was, he can take the hit and remove his name from the list of operator so you wont have to pay higher premium for a few years til it goes back down |
How they stop scammers like you from having your son drive under your cheaper discounted insurance is the newish clause " drivers must have 10 years of experience driving" if picked that to save a couple bucks and your son which probally doesn't have 10 years experience your kinda fucked. |
Unless the son lives away from home since its only within the same household. In reality, if the accident wasn't too bad, just cash deal it! Posted via RS Mobile |
